It’s been 2 weeks of emergencies here at Rescue and Relax. We’ve had 3 cats at Blue Pearl Pet Hospital and it’s cost $6000 & counting 😿

We’ve gone several months without sending a cat to the ER… but when it rains, it pours ⛈️☔🥺 Our cat rescue desperately needs help to cover these back-to-back emergency bills. Every little bit helps!

Lady Gaga is a 2yo brown tabby that was raced to BluePearl 11 days ago with really concerning neuro symptoms. She fell off the bed & wobbled to her litter box to vomit. She was bobbing her head, walking unsteadily, & twitching her eyes rapidly & we feared she had a seizure. It turned out her symptoms were vestibular, resulting from a bad ear infection that messed with her sense of balance & made her feel like she was on a rollercoaster. She went home with antibiotics, fluids, & anti-nausea meds and felt better within 48 hours! She has a follow-up at PetVet365 to make sure the infection cleared 💛🍍🐱

Dionysus is a 1yo fluffy tux who got into lilies at his foster home. They weren’t sure he consumed any, but found pollen on his fur. Lilies are so toxic to cats that we couldn’t take any chances. Since it was Memorial Day, ER was our only option to induce vomiting & check his kidney function. He visited PetVet365 the next day & confirmed his kidney values remained normal. He’s been doing great since this health scare 🖤🤍

Eliza is a 13yo diabetic, grey kitty and she’s been hospitalized at BluePearl since Friday. She stopped eating Thursday night & started vomiting Friday, so South Side Flats Animal Hospital squeezed her in. They were worried about her glucose & ketone levels and advised going to ER. The vet at BluePearl suspected more was going on than diabetes and discovered she has hyperthyroidism. She was hospitalized overnight and ate a little, but her appetite & glucose levels weren’t responding as expected. She stayed another night for continued monitoring & care to make sure her levels normalize & appetite improves ❤️‍🩹🤞

If you notice that we might not have snacks out during your visit, it’s because of this guy 🤪😼 Banana unfortunately likes to test the durability of all the snack packaging so if he’s being particularly destructive we’ve had to put the snacks away.

In good news: Banana is being adopted into a wonderful family along with his brother Kiwi! And snack availability should return soon! 🍌🥝🙌

This Mother’s Day we’re shining a light on some of our wonderful mama cats who are still waiting for their purrfect forever homes 💖🥰

First we’ve got Madame Curie and her daughter Pipette! This duo was a part of a bigger science crew, and mama Curie’s other kids Petri, Bunsen, and Beaker have all been adopted. Pipette has become a mama’s girl through and through, and she and Madame Curie are now a package deal 🥰🧪🧬

Our second dynamic duo is Chickadee and Dove! You may remember our crew of almost 30 bird kitties, and Chickadee and Dove are our final two waiting on their forever home. Chickadee has been a great mom to her other three kittens, but she and Dove have developed a special bond. 🥹🕊️ They’re both slightly less outgoing kitties, but have a lot of love to give when they’re feeling up for it!

And our final pair is Mildred and Agnes, the moms of the two litters of kittens that were found at Kennywood! 🎢💕 These two mamas were excellent caretakers to their kittens, all of whom have since been adopted. The moms started off as semi-feral, but through time, space, and the dedicated work of our volunteers, have learned to love the cozy comforts of being indoors and getting pets and human attention! Mildred and Agnes bonded through their time at the lounge, and are now best buds — cuddling, playing, and sleeping together! 🥹🥰

Games + Cats = double the fun! We’re launching our twice monthly board game nights, starting this Tuesday April 14th! 🧩🎲

Come on out for a night of board games at the cat lounge, with proceeds benefitting our efforts rescuing homeless kitties in and around Pittsburgh, PA.

Game nights will be the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, and will run from 7-9pm. We’ll have plenty of games, including Isle of Cats, Calico, Boop, and more! 🏝️🐈🧶

Guests of all ages are welcome to attend. You can get tickets at rescueandrelax.com/events 😸🎟️

Then join us this Tuesday, March 31st, for a night of board games at our cat lounge!

All proceeds for this event will go directly to Rescue and Relax to help us continue rescuing homeless cats in and around Pittsburgh, PA.

Wanna meet more of our music cats?? Say hello to Good Charlotte and Linkin Park! 🖤❤️‍🔥

These two sweeties (and their mom Evanescence) are part of a different litter than the earlier emo kittens, but all came to the rescue around the same time and were rocking the emo bangs and eyeliner, so we knew we had to continue with the music theme🤘🎸👩‍🎤

We’ve had so many kittens come into our care over the past few months, and the costs to feed and vet them have been climbing as they and their appetites grow. 😺🍗💸

We are entirely volunteer-run and subsist on donations. Any amount you can donate helps us care for the emo kittens and all of the other cats in the rescue. We appreciate your support as we continue to care for these adorable kitties and get them adopted into loving homes!
