We believe every life is special. Although we would like to save more, we save one at a time. Numbers is not our game, as we have many that even other rescues pass up because they are "unadoptable" for one reason or another. However, we have found that every single horse can be used in Equine Assisted Therapy, even if they are just a model for an exercise like anatomy or studying their behavior. A

s the old saying goes, "Someone else's trash is another's treasure". We love and treasure each and every life that comes to Mea Ola's Place. Our commitment to each horse is for life, whether that is by finding them a forever home, or providing one for them.

I have another life to save. This poor sweet gal (I believe it is a female) fell out of the nest and dogs got her.
She has a broken leg, which I splinted. She got pain meds and has eaten for me.
She’s still a bit shaken up and we shall see how this goes. I have not named her yet.
Funny, I was missing a baby raven and lo and behold, received a call to help this one today.
Perfect timing. ❤️

Ian flew home today. What a blessing his help was!
Here are some pictures he took and some of him while he was here.
He spent a lot of special time with the horses and Donks. I think they will miss him too!

He’s still defying all odds! ❤️❤️❤️

This picture seems pretty insignificant but it’s special to me. Rocky’s turnout area was a dry lot and one day I had a little meltdown and told my husband I just wanted Rocky to be able to experience grazing if in fact he didn’t get to stay long. The next day, he planted grass and would run sprinklers on it so it would grow quickly. That grass is growing, and so is Rocky ❤️. He finally found it today and I got to sit and watch him learn yet another thing “normal horses” do. It’s the little things that mean so much ❤️.

Hi all. It’s our Five dollar Friday monthly feed drive!
Here are some pics of some of them from this morning. Everyone is doing great!
My surgeon said I’m doing great too and did tell me to walk some. I can now sleep without my brace as well! Yay!

This month’s fundraiser is especially important as I won’t have an income to make my financial contributions until I go back to work next month. (Disability ran out last month) These supplement our monthly sponsorships and my contributions. Without these monthly feed fundraiser’s we wouldn’t be here! So please know how much every donation is appreciated!
You can always contribute directly to the Feed Barn 760 868 4840 or PayPal https://www.paypal.me/meaola
And we even have Zelle: 661 557 2680.
Happy Friday to everyone!!!

Hi everyone. Here’s an update for those of you asking.
Ian is here for the next 8 days and that will help to give Emily a break from feeding. (I still can’t even pull a hose)
We got a place in Wrightwood for extra help to stay during my recovery. So I’ve been enjoying the fresh air and watching these two reconnect. Other folks will be coming in the next week as well.
I will get a horse/donkey update out this week and I see the surgeon tomorrow for a check up on how I’m healing. I feel pretty good! ❤️

Hahaha!

Hi all! Here’s an update.
I’ve been off pain meds for almost 24 hrs and I feel pretty good!
Napping a lot since I am only getting a couple of hours of sleep at a time through the night. The main irritation is my throat and the bruising. But even that is better today.
I came home over the weekend and have had people here to help me with taking care of myself, along with the animals.

My friend that was here this weekend had a birds nest in his RV and didn’t realize it until he was already here, so I have these two babies to take care of. No worries, they are easy peasy. McFly’s splint rubbed a hole in his leg and needs the wrap changed twice a day. I am able to do that as well. It’s much better now and almost ready to leave unwrapped.

I got some pretty flowers and am enjoying my peace, trying not to be too impatient about healing. Eating and sleeping when my body says so.

The horses are doing well. I may try to walk a loop around the property tomorrow and I do have someone coming to hang out again tomorrow and take me to the grocery store tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone that’s been checking on me! I do believe I’ve got this! 😊

Well , good morning and happy Friday! Here is an update on me for those of you that asked.

I went in for surgery at 5 am yesterday and haven’t slept since I woke up from anesthesia. Ugh.
The surgery went very well and I’m not in near as much pain as I anticipated. Along with stabilizing that area to protect my spinal cord from further damage, he removed some bone spurs that were pinching nerves and I am very hopeful that will give me some relief in my shoulders and arms! However, every time I nod off, I wake up unable to exhale through my nose. The best way I can describe it is the flapper that makes us snore gets stuck shut! It sounds comical but causes me to panic and wake up. For Pete’s sake, I could exhale through my mouth, but I guess my body isn’t thinking of that! It may be because I’ve been trying to sleep flat. So, I’ll try propping up next.
The pain meds also keep me awake, so I’m going to skip my next dose and see if I can sleep. My incision is super sore and swollen, so I’ve been icing it. That is not something I dealt with last neck surgery either.
I decided to come out and watch the sun come up here in Tehachapi. It’s where MOP was started. I’m at my mom’s for the next week to give me a head start on healing. I want to say thank you to her and to everyone that has come forward to help me take care of the animals during this time. I am so blessed.
Speaking of blessed, yesterday right before I was wheeled into surgery, my surgeon came to talk to me. He asked if I was nervous and I said “No, just not looking forward to recovering.”
He then came and sat next to me, took my hand and asked if he could pray. He prayed for me and my healing as well as his hands to be guided by the Father. It was so beautiful and a moment I will never forget. How many surgeons do that?!
God is good, all the time!
Love you all and I’ll update again soon!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a blessing! Danny is finally getting his feet done today.
Several farriers didn’t want to try to do his feet since he is completely blind. We cannot walk up to him to get a halter on. However, I have a routine that works so well. I’ve explained this but then they want a vet to be here to sedate him and all. I understand not wanting to risk getting hurt. But this horse does not need to be sedated. Before he went completely blind, he had his feet done regularly. After he went blind, to catch him, I first put a lasso around his neck. He then understands (doesn’t fight at all) that we are going to put a halter on and do whatever it is we need to do.
Romero is the most gifted horseman I have ever met! The donkeys that no one can do, the horses no one will try…. They all just calmly submit and do whatever is needed.
I am so thrilled! I wanted to make sure all were caught up on everything they needed before my surgery. And everything is working out great.
2 days to go til surgery.❤️

I found an old video of Rowdy 2 days old. He was pretty weak.
It always amazes me when I see these videos because I saw h as a strong fighter and that’s what he turned out to be.
2 days later he crashed and was moved into the house to be “hospitalized” for the next three months. ❤️

Happy Birthday Rowdy!
Here he is STILL knowing and enjoying his yogurt!!! 😘😃😊
