Puppies' First Groom!

Your dog will spend over 300+ hours of their life with their groomer. Here are some ways to help them grow into calm, comfortable, and cooperative grooming dogs.

A- Initiate the grooming process early! Contrary to popular myth, cutting their hair too soon will not damage their coat. In fact, the sooner you start, the better (ideally at 8+ weeks old). Puppies at this age are highly receptive to new experiences and will readily accept the grooming process. Conversely, delayed introduction (beyond 6+ months) may lead to anxiety or fear surrounding the various aspects of grooming, including vibrating tools, touch, industrial dryers, and more.

B- Gradually acclimate your puppy to the grooming process. Avoid requesting a full groom haircut for their inaugural experience. Instead, start with visits to the shop for treats and attention, followed by nail trims. For their first groom, opt for an introductory puppy session, consisting of a bath and blow dry without an actual haircut. This incremental approach will help your puppy become increasingly confident in their surroundings, fostering trust in their groomer and comfort with the tools involved.

C- Maintain realistic expectations. While you may envision a specific look for your puppy, it is essential to consider their comfort level and willingness to cooperate. Have you worked with your puppy and their groomer to establish a rapport and build trust? Their first haircut may not be perfect, but with patience and persistence, your vision will eventually be realized.

D- Effective communication with your groomer is crucial. They will guide you on how to reinforce positive behaviors at home, between visits, to enhance your puppy's confidence and maintain their coat. ❤️🐶.
