Buddy & Friends Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization based in Pembroke, MA. We rely solely on the backbone of our rescue which is fosters and volunteers. We exist to rescue and re-home dogs that would not have a chance otherwise. We are the voice for the voiceless. We take pride in educating the public on rescue dogs and the spay/neuter crisis in the south. We pull ani

mals from McNairy Humane Society in TN. Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats). Our end goal is the same of many other rescues to provide a furever happy home to our animals. We pull animals from McNairy Humane Society in TN!

Welcome to the BFAR family Ford! ♥️
This little nugget was found roaming in Hull and after no one stepped forward for him, he landed with us!

We already scheduled his first vet visit to bring him up to date on vaccinations. After a clean bill of health, we will get him neutered and he will be ready for his forever home. 💙

As the year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize our incredible trainer, Scott Shanley.

Scott is a professional trainer who partners with Buddy & Friends Animal Rescue and is truly the person we call when things get hard. He supports our fosters and adopters through everything, fearful dogs, reactive dogs, working breeds, and dogs with more complex needs

What sets Scott apart is that he shows up no matter when or how complicated the situation is. He supports the humans just as much as the dogs. Helping adopters gain confidence, supporting volunteers as they learn and grow, and being there for people through the hard moments that come with building lasting bonds.

Rescue work is messy, emotional and rarely easy. Having someone like Scott in our corner makes an enormous difference not just for our dogs but for the people who love them.

We are incredibly grateful for your dedication, your patience and your belief in both ends of the leash. Thank you for being such an important part of our rescue family.

Born after her mom was dumped while pregnant, Ruthie has grown into a confident, affectionate girl ready for home life.

Phoenix is a Pit Bull mix, 48lbs, about 8 months old (DOB 4/15/25). She’s sweet and gentle, a little shy at first but warms up quickly.

She’s done well with other dogs and has been around kids (older kids recommended). Still learning crate, house, and leash skills and would do best in a calm, supportive home.

Oreo is a Pit Bull mix, 60lbs, DOB 11/24/23. She’s affectionate, high-energy, and loves people. With attention and pets, she settles nicely and is very sweet.

She does well with other dogs and would do best with older kids. Still working on manners and leash skills, ideal for an active foster or adopter.

Meet the team Monday:

Fundraising coordinator: Lisa Gilbert

Lisa’s love for dogs began when she was seven and her uncle brought a stray puppy to her family to take in. She has had dogs in her life ever since. Lisa and her family have loved Bernese Mountain Dogs for many years. After the sudden loss of her beloved Ketch, the house felt quiet and her other Berner Bretton felt that loss too. Fostering brought comfort back into their home. Their second foster Buck was so gentle and sweet that the whole family knew he was meant to stay.

Lisa joined BFAR hoping to use her skills to support the rescue’s growing needs. With experience in IT, finance and marketing she was ready to take on the behind the scenes work that helps keep our programs moving. She stepped into the Fundraising Coordinator role with a focus on strengthening what is already in place and supporting the team as we continue to grow.

In her role Lisa works on grant writing, corporate outreach and local fundraisers. Seeing donations turn into medical care, safety and second chances is one of the most meaningful parts of her work. She also understands how essential fundraising is for a volunteer run rescue with many dogs depending on this support. Outside of rescue life Lisa enjoys time with her family. She has three children and a full time career but still finds space to give back in ways that matter deeply to her.

Being part of the BFAR family means a great deal to Lisa. She feels inspired every day by the compassion of the team and the shared dedication to giving dogs the chance they deserve. Lisa’s dream fundraiser would bring local businesses and supporters together for a large community event that builds strong ongoing partnerships and helps even more dogs find safety and love.

Lisa’s work makes a real difference for the dogs in our care and we are grateful to have her with us.
