🚨 VOLUNTEERS WANTED — BUT PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING..🚨
As we head into September, we’ll be looking to add a small number of experienced volunteers to our shelter team.
And we want to be very clear: we are not looking for just anyone who loves dogs. Loving dogs is the easy part. Shelter work is very different from hanging out with your family pet.
We are specifically looking for people who have experience with:
🐾 Strong, powerful dogs
🐾 Reactive or behavioral dogs
🐾 Fearful, nervous, or shut-down dogs
🐾 Proper use of slip leads and prong collars
🐾 Handling barking, overstimulation, and a sometimes chaotic shelter environment
🐾 Multitasking while remaining calm and confident
🐾 Following instructions, protocols, and safety procedures
🐾 Communicating clearly and effectively with the team
Our dogs deserve volunteers who can confidently and safely handle them, especially the ones who need a little more patience, structure, and experience.
This isn’t meant to discourage people from volunteering. It’s about making sure the people we bring onto our team are the right fit for the dogs currently in our care.
Some of the dogs in our care were quite literally minutes away from losing their lives. We pulled them from death row and promised them a second chance. We don’t say that to be dramatic, we say it because it’s the reality of rescue. Now we need people willing to step up and help our harder dogs make it all the way to the forever homes they fought to live for. Could that be you?
If you have hands-on experience with strong, reactive, fearful, or behavioral dogs and think shelter chaos might actually be your kind of chaos… keep an eye out. 👀🐾
