Let’s give a round of applause to our recent little graduate! 🎓

Porter has spent the last week and a half gaining a solid foundation of e-collar understanding and his obedience commands! We also sprinkled in addressing some of the not-so-fun adolescent behaviors owners didn’t love as much.

This young and driven GSP will have a lifetime of learning curves and a whole lotta fun ahead of him.

We can’t wait to hear about how he does! 🌟

Unpopular opinion: Dog Trainer Edition. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your dog doesn’t need to know how to “shake” or “sit pretty”

They need to be taught how to self regulate.
Dogs do not come preprogrammed with an “off” switch.
Calmness must be taught.
Just like every other behavior!

Wondering why your dog is still as crazy after that 2 mile walk? Because you haven’t shown them how to shut down “active mode” and relax.

Easiest way to start practicing those calm muscles?
Attach a leash, tether it to something sturdy & ignore them.

That’s it.

They might whine.
They may bark.
They could even try biting at the leash.

Patience and consistency will always win.

The next time will be smoother.
The time after that, they will settle quicker.
& before you know it they are choosing to settle in moments that they wouldn’t otherwise.

They don’t know what we don’t show them.

I challenge you, to challenge your dog.
(And yourself. 😉)

Teach calm.

Everyone welcome (back!) Porter! 🌟

This 8 month old GSP might look a little familiar! This guy and his owners have been working with me since they brought him home as a little guy.

For the next week and a half he is joining us to sharpen up all of the tools owners have started at home.

We look forward to seeing what we can accomplish with him! 🐾

Our Where Hearts Meet 5k is tomorrow so the sanctuary will be closed. If you didn't get a chance to pre-register, you can still attend this pawesome event! Please join us tomorrow, May 16th at beautiful and historic Midway Village for a run, jog or walk with your dog. 🐶💕

🏃‍♀️Check-in and at-the-door registration are at 8am tomorrow, the 5k starts at 8:30am. If you're bringing your dog, please bring proof they are current on their rabies vaccines.

🏃🏻Participants will enjoy meeting other dog parents, playing with Noah's Ark adoptable dogs/puppies, grab-n-go breakfast, pet caricatures, training tips from our trainer, and fun for the whole family as your kiddos can participate too!

Let’s find Sasha her forever home! 🐾

💕Calling all Shar-Pei lovers! Have you seen our beautiful girl, Sasha?! 💕

This blonde bombshell is a 9 month old, 46 pound, female Shar-Pei. She was transferred from another rescue and she is ready to finally find her special people. Sasha is a smart, eager to learn, active girl. She knows basic commands such as "sit," "down," and "come." She is working on other commands with our staff and our trainer, and is doing fabulous! She is an active girl and would thrive in an active home. Looking for a hiking buddy or walking partner? Sasha is your girl. If you're looking for a dog to train and make a wonderful companion, she is your girl. Because of her high energy level, strength and breed, she will not do well as someone's first dog. She gets very excited around other dogs and will need to meet all of your dogs prior to adoption. We don’t know her history with children so all kiddos in the home must also be present to meet. Sasha is available for adoption now and cannot wait to meet you. We are open from 12pm - 5:30pm. Door manners can save a life! 🐶

Creating a boundary at open thresholds not only allows safety and reassurance in a time where the door flies open unexpectedly, but additionally you are creating impulse control.
A dog who is paying attention to the humans for the next thing.

This is where they are listening to you.
Create patience.

She is a year and a half old lab FULL of power! I’m already nick-naming her the little bull. Lol

She is spending the next week and a half with us solidifying her obedience, learning e-collar communication & most importantly- mastering a loose leash walk! 🦮
