Good news for Daisy! ❤️🐾

Daisy is headed to the Bay Area with her forever family!

They’ve fallen in love with her, and Daisy seems to think they’re pretty cool, too! It will take time for her to fully trust them, but the connection and compatibility are definitely there.

They even surprised me with flowers to thank me for my role in Daisy’s training. Such a thoughtful gesture!

But I also want to recognize Daisy’s foster mom, who has worked tirelessly to get her to this point. Your patience, dedication, and willingness to work through Daisy’s challenges have made an enormous difference. You deserve so much credit!

It’s been a privilege to be part of Daisy’s journey. We’ve both invested so much in helping her become the dog she is today, and seeing her get this opportunity makes all that hard work worthwhile.

Here’s to new beginnings, Daisy! ❤️

Some folks might consider this cruel or say we’re forcing the dog into an uncomfortable situation.

There’s a big difference between forcing an interaction and helping a dog work through a manageable social challenge.

Notice how the German Shepherd’s handler is spotting her dog. She’s close enough to read his body language and step in if needed, without interfering with the interaction. This kind of spotting provides support when the situation feels stressful to the dog, helping him work through the challenge.

Avoiding every uncomfortable situation doesn’t build confidence, but neither does pushing a dog past its limits. Giving dogs opportunities to experience manageable challenges, with the right guidance, support, can help develop social skills, resilience, and trust.

Easy training tip: When your puppy learns they can ignore you or run away when called, you’re teaching them that listening to you is optional. A long line helps you establish clear boundaries and follow through.

Yeah, it’s hard, but that’s the challenge! When dogs work through something difficult and succeed, they learn to trust themselves and us. That builds resilience and confidence to face new challenges.

A huge shout-out to Max and Honey’s owners for their hard work and dedication. They smashed it! 👊 They make it look easy! 🔥

We’re bringing four reactive dogs together for a guided social hike, including Max and Honey. Let’s see how they do!

A few important things to remember:

Keep greetings brief and positive. Never force interactions. Give dogs the opportunity to learn through positive social experiences.

Teaching dogs how to disengage is just as important as teaching them how to greet. We use the command “Enough.”

You’ll see Max go into a “Down.” He has a fast-acting mind, and this gives him a moment to slow down and reset.

Then comes “Break,” our release marker, giving him freedom again.

As dogs demonstrate good social skills, we gradually allow more freedom. That’s how we build confidence, trust, and better social behavior through real-life experiences.

There’s nothing unusual about this. Dogs naturally move toward things that are interesting or rewarding.

But here’s the part people often miss: every time pulling results in forward movement, the dog gets practice pulling—and behavior that repeatedly works tends to be repeated.
