Lilies are such pretty flowers. However, they are toxic to your pet. If ingested, it can cause some GI upset in your dog but can be fatal to your kitty.
Early signs of lily toxicity in cats include decreased activity, drooling, vomiting, and loss of appetite. As it progresses, it can cause kidney failure.
Please contact your vet immediately if your pet has come into contact with one.

It is Prevention of Lyme Disease Month.
Did you know that an infected tick has to feed on its host for at least 24-48 hours in order to spread the disease? So prompt removal is recommended, along with being on monthly prevention and up to date on their vaccine.
Speak to your vet if you have any questions or concerns about prevention or getting the vaccine.๐Ÿพ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿพ

We are very excited to introduce the newest Doctor to our practice:
Dr. Dylan Nusche
Veterinary Medicine Graduate; Veterinarian with a Passion for Small Animal Medicine & Surgery

"I am a recent 2025 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, having completed my clinical year at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. My journey into veterinary medicine began long before I donned the white coatโ€”my passion was sparked at a young age when I dressed up as a veterinarian for career day in first grade. Since then, my commitment to caring for animals has only grown stronger.
Originally from Bradenton, Florida, I graduated from Lakewood Ranch High School and went on to earn my Bachelorโ€™s degree in Biological Sciences from Florida State University in 2020. With a deep-rooted love for animals, I am particularly drawn to small animal care, focusing on dogs and cats, though I also have aspirations to work with reptiles, birds, and small mammals in the future.
In addition to my academic achievements, I have a keen interest in soft tissue surgery and am eager to expand my surgical skills as I begin my career in veterinary medicine. Outside of the clinic, I enjoy spending my free time riding motorcycles, fishing, and cultivating my passion for aquaculture, both freshwater and reef aquariums.
At home, I share my life with a variety of animals, including two cats, Goose and Pepper; a golden retriever, Bentley; a German Shepherd mix, Storm; as well as a tortoise, snake, chickens, cows, koi, and several freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Each of them further fuels my dedication to improving the lives of animals.
I am excited to continue my journey in veterinary medicine, combining my skills, compassion, and lifelong love for animals to make a positive impact on the lives of pets and their families."

Did you know that more than a million pets in the US have Heartworm Disease?
With the available prevention we have today, your pets' longevity increases.
If a dog develops heartworms, there is a treatment for it. However, there currently is not a treatment for cats.
Yearly heartworm testing is highly recommended.
Visit the heartwormsociety.org for more information.
If you need any prevention refills, or if your pet is due for their yearly testing, give us a call. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

It's National Siamese Cat Day! ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿพ
Did you know Siamese kittens are born all white! Their coats darken with age due to a temperature-sensitive enzyme called tyrosinase, which is involved in the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for color in skin and fur.

Leptospirosis is now a core vaccine as designated by the American Animal Hospital Association guidelines. With a lot of construction going on displacing many wildlife, your pets risk of contracting it may have increased. And because it is zoonotic, you too can be at risk. If you still have questions about the vaccine or want to update your pet, give us a call to schedule an appointment. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿถ

Caring for your pet as if it is our own!

At North River Animal Hospital, our mission is to continually strive to meet and exceed the expectations set by our clients who are seeking expert veterinary care for their pets. As we grow in the Parrish area, our experience caring for companion small animals is backed by over six decades of collective experience gained by our very compassionate and caring doctors. Beginning in 2002 when we started Braden River Animal Hospital in Bradenton, our sister practice North River Animal Hospital, continues to provide excellence in preventative care, medicine and surgery on a daily basis in order to improve or extend the quality of your petโ€™s life. What sets us apart? Relationships. Now serving the pet community for over 16 years, our formula for success has been founded on the special and very meaningful relationships we have developed with pet owners. We tremendously value the trust that is bestowed upon us every day to ensure that each of our patients receives optimal care. With two, state-of-the-art facilities in Bradenton and now in Parrish, our commitment is to provide that latest in technology when addressing diagnostics with our full service in-house and outside reference laboratories, digital radiology, dental X-ray, and ultrasound services. And in following the services and care we have provided at our first location for so many years, at North River Animal Hospital, we also prepared to serve our Parrish pet owners with an equally, well planned out facility. This includes spacious and comfortable exam rooms, an advanced surgical suite, a separate specialized dental suite, a large treatment area and more so that we can provide premium pet healthcare whether patients are in need of a preventative wellness exam, vaccines, a diagnostic work-up for a sick pet or emergency services that require immediate acute care and/or surgery. Most importantly, our mission to serve the pet community in the most ideal way possible is by investing in people. In order to strengthen the doctor-client-patient bonds we have formulated in the community, our Associate Veterinarians and support staff receive collaborative and mutual respect as well as on-going continuing education to enhance and fortify the skill sets of our valued practice professionals. By supporting the three components so valued in the relationship process at our practices, we look forward to enhancing, even more so, the bonds that tie all of us together through the love that each of us has for the health and well-being of your pets.
