•Review & Story•
I’ve decided that client reviews are also going to be a story time special! Goodness knows you have a story or few after working with the same animal for multiple years.
I’ve been watching Luna for a while now. 4 or 5 years?Admittedly I should keep better track of when I started working with different clients, but it all blurs together as time goes on.
Miss Lu is a mama’s girl. She LOVES her mama and the activities she shares with her ma are not necessarily activities she enjoys with everyone, but we didn’t find that out right away. It took ages of following Alaina’s directions while also doing my best to respect what I felt Luna was trying to communicate when she would retire under her mom’s bed, and in turn communicating what we were seeing at the stay back to her mom.
There are social cats out there, Luna is not necessarily one of them. The thing with cats is they really need consent. They need time, they need respect. It took consistency and a respect for her body language for her to finally start popping out longer, for her to come over and ask for pets, or to finally feel comfortable enough to go for the hunt when she saw me with one of her toys. It was the best feeling when she asked for tummy rubs for the first time!!!!
And that kept up for a couple of years! But the thing with time is it changes us. Maybe in different ways, but the things we love, the places we find most comfortable, and the activities we fill our time with change. That is not something that only applies to humans. Our animal companions experience those changes too.
As Luna has gotten older she has become a lot less playful when her mom is away. She will play for a bit, or maybe ask for pets, but nowadays she reaches a limit and retires under her mom’s bed when she is done with company. It’s very relatable, honestly!
I miss our play time or making her little forts in her younger years, but there is also something really special about the little moments we get now as she ages. Those things that show the years we have spent getting to know one another. Maybe things have changed, maybe we aren’t the same anymore, but the journey has been worth it. 🐈⬛♥️🐾
