So… what is Canine Trailing?

Canine trailing teaches your dog to use their natural scenting ability to follow the unique scent of a specific person through real-life environments and successfully locate them.

It’s fun, mentally enriching, confidence-building, and often incredibly empowering for both dog and handler. It can help dogs learn to work independently, solve problems, build resilience, and strengthen the partnership with their human.

I recently had the privilege of writing an article for Live Well Douglas County, Colorado 🐾

In it, I’m breaking down 5 of the most common dog training myths I see - and why they often make things harder than they need to be.

– “You can’t teach an older dog”
– “They should just know better”
– “You need to be the alpha”

These ideas are still everywhere, and they can really get in the way of clear communication and progress.

The truth is, our dogs aren’t trying to challenge us - they’re trying to understand us and the world they live in. And when we focus on teaching instead of assuming, everything starts to shift.

From “What am I even doing here?” to “I FOUND MY PERSON!” 🐾

Today’s Intro to Canine Trailing workshop was such a fun one. Watching dogs go from uncertainty to confidently following a trail and locating their person never gets old.

Different dogs, different approaches - but every single one leaned into the process and made real progress.

And honestly… those final finds? Always the best part.

So much fun working with all of you today - I loved seeing the teamwork grow with every run.
