sometimes… Dog training is boring. today, Huckleberry sat at the dog park for 20 minutes doing nothing, giving no cues, only playing the engage disengage game if there’s something that he may alert bark at! boring is good!

its more a matter of when, not if something bad can happen in a dog park. its best to have small controlled play group in order to teach your dog how to play!

this is something i don’t think gets talked about enough
a lot of behavior stuff we see in dogs isn’t just training… it can also be things like diet, gut health, energy levels, all of that

like dogs that can’t settle, seem constantly “on,” or are extra sensitive to everything around them… sometimes there’s more going on under the surface

most dogs don’t “know heel”… they just memorize patterns

this game fixes that

when your dog loses position, instead of guessing or drifting, they learn to actively find heel again. that’s what makes heel actually reliable in real life, not just in training reps

how to play “catch me if you can”:
start walking with your dog in heel
randomly speed up, turn, or move away from them
don’t cue anything
let them figure it out and race back into position
the second they hit heel, mark + reward

what this builds:
engagement without nagging
faster reorientation back to you
a dog that chooses heel instead of waiting to be told

keep it short, make it fun, and let them win often

We get so caught up in dog training.
High expectations. Constant pressure. Feeling like every mistake matters.

But step back for a second.
You didn’t get a dog to run perfect drills all day.

You got them so you could actually enjoy life together.
Go places. Relax. Have fun.

Training is just the bridge to that. Not the whole point.
