Our horses already have to deal with a life of eating before we do things with their heads/jaws! Let’s be kind and do those things in the softest way possible.

Good Bodywork can release soooo much tension here and that balances the horse back out. It’s all connected!

Gotta love a big shoulder/neck release 〽️

This sweet smart boy is learning the Spanish walk and podium stands!

Every wonder why the horse drops its head after exercise?

He’s stretching right?

Not really…..

Resting is more like it!

His flexor muscles need a rest and the Nuchal ligament is strong enough to help relieve those muscles. The horse’s head is roughly 10% of its body weight.. gravity pulls and his extensors fire and with the help of the nuchal ligament he can rest this flexor muscles!

EXTENSORS: Splenius and Semispinalis muscles are the most powerful and extend the poll and elevate the neck.

FLEXORS: Brachiocephalic muscle — flexes cervical (neck) vertebrae bringing the neck down and head back. Aka flexing the poll, also creates lateral side to side flexion.

These muscles in the upper neck get sore because they have a huge job! That’s a heavy head.

How do we help? Drop the reins give them a chance to put the head UP to rest their extensors and DOWN to rest the flexors. Resist anything that doesn’t give them breaks to rest both sets of muscles.

Remember suppleness is key!

Yawning, licking, chewing, shaking heads, movement all ways the horses let go! Sometimes grinding, circling, are the tell tales that the horse is about to let go.

Sometimes they hide everything until we move away. All horses are different!

This pony yawned for over 2 mins in this area! He wasn’t keen on my hands touching him there so very thankful I have MagnaWave to help him!!
