Aug. 17: National Black Cat Appreciation Day
Today we celebrate the sleek, the mysterious, and the endlessly lovableāblack cats! š¤ Often misunderstood, these beauties bring just as much love and luck as any other feline. Today we want to show case one of our patients we see often, Salem.
This is from Salem's family, "Sixteen years ago, our family went to the local animal shelter where we met an incredibly affectionate and sweet black cat. We immediately knew she was perfect for our family. We were surprised to learn that she was an adult because sheās so petite (on average she weighs 5 pounds). The tips on her ears also give her a distinctive look. I love black cats and thought of their association with witches, so I named her Salem after Salem, Massachusetts.
Donāt let her small size fool you though! She is quite the huntress. When sheās not napping in sunny spots inside our house, she used to love hunting outside, especially hunting baby rabbits that were almost as big as she is. These days sheās mostly retired, spending more time snuggling with family members or tapping you with one of her claws to let you know when she wants attention. Sheās not your usual cat; she loves it when my husband rubs her fur back and forth like one would a dog, and sheās not shy about walking outside in the rain, either. We love our little black cat."
