Tank not cycling
I have a 36 gallon bow front aquarium. When I got it I set it up and was ghost feeding for about a week to start the nitrogen cycle, but I was impatient and added my fish before the cycle was finished and decided to try an in fish cycle. I was testing the water every single day and the ammonia kept rising, but nitrites and nitrates were 0. My pH had dropped to 6, so I realized that was stalling the cycle and I added some buffer to get the pH up. After a week or so, the nitrites rose, then ammonia and nitrites dropped and I thought everything was finally coming together. Well, I was wrong. The ammonia is still low, although present and the nitrites are going crazy. I don't know what to do here and would really love some help.

* Fish were added 6 weeks ago. There are 2 electric blue acaras, 2 angelfish, 6 pepper corys, and 2 mystery snails. (I know this tank is too small, but the fish are small and I plan to upgrade to at LEAST 125 gallons before everyone reaches adult size).

* The tank is full of Amazon Swords, Water Wisteria, and Hornwort, so my nitrates being low isn't shocking.

* I dose the tank every day with Seachem Prime and Stability to detoxify the ammonia and nitrites and try to keep the bacteria going.

* I have a Tidal 55 filter crammed with bio filtration materials and a sponge filter for additional surface area for beneficial bacteria.

* I am not over feeding. Any food I add is gone within 1 minute. They eat Northfin Cichlid pellets and Bug Bites with occasional blood worms as a treat.

I am just lost. I have done everything that has been recommended by YouTube and such, but this damn tank is making me insane. What else do I need to be doing?

I got a betta fish because he demanded I take him home, help
Hello!! I got a betta fish impulsively a month or two ago right after I miscarried, (he looked me in the eyes and demanded I take him home I swears) as you can imagine I'm just now getting to researching and wanting to upgrade his tank. I've been scrolling the heck out of this subreddit in the last few days and my be opening a credit card for him soon /hj. His name is Bhaal he is a halfmoon betta male (? more on that later), he is currently in a 10-gallon tank with two 1.5-inch-ish mystery snails my Fiancée recommended I get, and 3 half inch nerite snails. We just got him a sponge filter set up yesterday, and he has a badic heater that came with the tank. He's got some plants, I'm actively working on getting every plastic plant out of his tank but he really likes the ones I have left.

First question, what live plants should I get him? I've got some water spangle, java moss balls and an anubias bunk bed for him.

(MOST IMPORTANT) Secondly, I asked the googles and it couldn't seem to directly tell me about betta fish tanks just aquariums in general and reptile tanks which is not my betta boy, can I take sticks and pieces of wood from my front yard and sanitize them somehow to get him some free driftwood? Cause idk abt ya'll but why is it $10 for basically a stick (correct me if theres a drastic reason lol).

THIRDLY and least importantly, I'm 90% sure he's male, the pet store we got him at said they only have males, but it looks like he has an egg sac?? which like slay trans king (me too) but I just wana know.

included: current set up and pics of him being a goober

edited to add information abt the tank

New Tank - Tetras Offing Themselves - Plz Help
Hi there, so I just started a new job and they had an empty fish tank that had not been stocked for a few years. I offered to establish a new tank since I love keeping fish, I would consider myself intermediate.

I did all the things right, I cycled my tank for 4 weeks, doing frequent water testing. Its a moderately planted 30 gallon tank, nothing crazy. Last Thursday (6/18) my nitrite levels had finally hit zero after spiking, so when I came in on Monday and the levels still looked good I decided it was fish time.

I stocked it with 12 neon tetras, 6 kuhli loaches, 1 lemon bristlenose pleco, and a dwarf gourami. So far everyone but the tetras are doing well. When I came in this morning two had died and the water was a little cloudy (assuming thats new tank syndrome). I did a 25ish% water change to help, but during the water change another tetra started acting weird. He was almost like torpedoing through the water and spinning. During the water change he was completely frozen while all the others hid in the corner.

Does anyone know what it could be thats messing with my tetras? I have kept a small group before and they were pretty hardy. As long as I don't lose any more i'm thinking ill cut my losses, but if I lose anymore should I bring a water sample to the pet store (local store not a chain). Like what are the odds they were sick??

Important things to note: since the tank had been established before I used the old filter since there was potentially some bacteria left over (although unlikely because it was dry). Could that have affected things?

Any advice or input is appreciated, thanks.

My 20 Gal Tall Hex tank
This was the least of my liked tanks but it’s growing on me now. I feel like it’s ominous. Once it grew in it looked way better. I just trimmed the moss and moved the background rocks a bit.

Have to say I made flan and I hate it
It tastes like cheese. And it’s not nearly sweet enough. The recipe I used was 60ml water and 200g sugar for the caramel. The flan itself has 395g condensed milk, 350g evaporated milk, 6 egg yolks, 2 whole eggs, 1 tsp vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.

Due to over mixing and slightly overbaking the texture isn’t as smooth as I’d have liked but that’s besides the point, the thing tastes s**t to me. In fairness a good bit of caramel stuck to the base of my tin as a shell so I might try another slice later with some golden syrup drizzled on top

Edit: I underestimated the effect over baking would have on the flavour, and I’ve got loads of good advice here so I’m going to make another one soon. Thanks everyone

Did you use sweetened condensed milk? That’s what I use and it’s very sweet!

New Guy - What Should I Name Him?
I’m mesmerized by the coloring. Coloring like this was never available on a beta when I was a kid. It’s so cool to see the variety readily available these days.

My fish saved me from a robbery
Someone cut through my window screen early in the morning and tried to climb through. The only reason that they couldn't get into my room is because of my 30-gallon fishtank 😭 The aquarium hobby literally saved me
