McSweetie Update 🐶💙

I want to share a more honest update from our last visit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the news we were hoping for. She is now weeks post surgery (March 11 was her surgery) Her recovery started out well but took a turn. She developed another scratch in her right eye and we have spent weeks now trying to get that back to optimum. The left eye retina started to lift so the doctor had adjusted Sweetie’s medication to help the retina in her left eye settle. The new medication caused her eye pressure to spike, and her eye didn’t respond well, so she’s been taken off of that particular medication.

We discussed another surgery, but it only has about a 10% chance of success, and the doctor did not recommend putting her through that. And we don’t want her to suffer anymore as well.

So right now… we are choosing love, comfort, faith — and the power of prayer. 🙏

I’m asking all of you — our friends, family, and Sweetie’s beautiful community — to join us in a powerful positive, affirmative prayer for her healing. Please say this with us:

Sweetie Update 🐶💙

We had Sweetie’s two-week check this past Thursday with Dr. Wickware. The stitches are out and her prosthetic eye looks fantastic and is healing normally.

The remaining eye looks structurally good — the lens is in place, retina attached, and no signs of infection or pressure issues. The only concern is that her vision is still blurry, (she just can’t see yet)which they believe is from inflammation in the back of the eye, not damage.

We’re starting a 3-week round of oral prednisone and antibiotics to reduce the inflammation and hopefully improve her vision. If it doesn’t improve, Dr. Spatola may recheck and decide next steps.

She’s comfortable, healing, and seemed happier today after getting the stitches out. That alone was a big milestone.

🐾 Sweetie’s surgery turned into something very different than we expected — but we’re incredibly grateful tonight.

It’s been a long couple of days for our little girl.

Sweetie’s surgery took an unexpected turn. Before the procedure, the doctor discovered glaucoma in her right eye — the eye with the large cataract that had the retinal reattachment about four years ago. Even though the retina itself looked fine, glaucoma is extremely painful and would likely have required removal of the eye eventually anyway.

Because of that, we made the decision to remove the eye and place a prosthetic implant while she was already under anesthesia. This spared Sweetie from living with that pressure and pain, and also helped avoid putting her through another surgery later.

Her left eye had some surprises too, but also some good news. The retina was not actually detached like we had feared. There was quite a bit of debris behind the eye and the capsule was damaged, so Dr. Spatola had to pivot during surgery. He was still able to remove the small cataract and insert a new lens, but because of the way the lens had to be positioned, no oil was used. The next three weeks will be very important as we watch her healing closely.

Today’s recheck gave us a bit of a scare. Her eye pressure spiked into the high 40’s — and for reference, the eye that had to be removed had a pressure of 40. Thankfully, the team at The Animal Eye Institute of Lexington jumped into action. They kept Sweetie for the day and worked to bring the pressure down.

By the time I picked her up this afternoon, they had gotten the pressure down and she was stable again. Huge thank you to Dr. Wickware and the entire team for taking such great care of her.

Sweetie and I made it home around 5 PM tonight, and tomorrow we head back to the Florence office to see Dr. Spatola since the Lexington office is closed Friday. She’ll be watched closely again tomorrow.

We are so grateful for all the prayers, love, and positive energy being sent her way. Sweetie has always been a fighter, and we’re hoping the next few weeks bring good healing and calmer days ahead. 💛🐾

McSweetie Update 🐾💛

Tonight is a big night for our little girl. We’re in Florence, Kentucky, close to the Animal Eye Institute, getting ready for McSweetie Sweets’ surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.

She will be having cataract removal with a new lens placed in her right eye, and retinal reattachment surgery with a new lens in her left eye. It’s a big surgery, but the doctors believe it could give her a chance at much better vision.

After weeks of healing from the ulcer in her left eye (and a rough reaction to medication), she is finally strong enough to move forward.

If you have a moment, we would be so grateful for prayers, positive thoughts, and healing energy for McSweetie as she sleeps tonight and for the doctors and surgical team tomorrow morning.

We would also love to ask for continued prayers for our dear friend Sylvia, who said goodbye yesterday to her sweet boy Ozzie. This photo of us together is a special memory, (2012/13)and our hearts are with her as she grieves such a beautiful soul.

🐾 McSweetie Update 🐾

We had Sweetie’s recheck, and we finally have clarity on the plan moving forward. 💛

First — she did get very sick from the meloxicam they prescribed. It just didn’t agree with her at all, and that was scary for a few days. But she is OFF of it now, her appetite is back, she’s eating great, feeling stronger, and back to being our determined little boss lady.

The ulcer in her left eye has healed enough for us to proceed — huge relief.

So here’s the big news:

📅 March 11 at The Animal Eye Institute

• Right eye: Cataract removal + brand new lens
• Left eye: Retinal reattachment + new lens

Yes… you read that right.

When this girl is done, she may have better eyesight than her mommas. 😂👀✨

We are hopeful. We are grateful. And we are so proud of how strong she has been through all of this. She’s still navigating the house, finding her people, and even testing the stairs like she owns the place.

Thank you for the prayers, love, good energy, and messages. We truly feel supported — and so does she.

March 11 is a big day. We’ll keep everyone posted.

Hi friends, it’s me — McSweetie Sweets 🐾💛

I saw the ophthalmologist yesterday and did really well (I was very polite and cooperative, as always 😉). My blood pressure looked great, and the doctor thinks my humans caught things early, which everyone is very thankful for.

I have a retinal detachment in my left eye along with a corneal scratch, so I’m on some very serious eye meds right now to get that healed up first. I’ve also always had a cataract in my right eye, and it’s now covering the whole eye — but the good news is that the retinal reattachment surgery I had four years ago is still holding strong.

My doctors and my humans are mapping out next steps with the retinal specialist. Since I’m otherwise in good health, they may look at helping both eyes and giving me a bit of a new lease on life — but we’re taking this one step at a time and no final decisions have been made yet.

We’re waiting to hear from Dr. Spatola at the Animal Eye Institute to talk timing and the best plan moving forward.

For now, I’m comfortable, taking all my drops like a champ (treats help 😌), and continuing to show everyone just how resilient I am.

Sweetie Update 💕🐶

I wanted to share an update on our sweet girl because the progress has been nothing short of amazing.

I’ve been doing multiple healing sessions with Sweetie each day, and we are seeing real, tangible improvements.

First, the big news: her doctor confirmed an appointment for Monday at noon in Lexington with her ophthalmologist 🎉 This feels like perfect timing and such a gift.

Even better—her hearing is slowly improving, and so is her vision. This Tuesday, when Jen took Sweetie to the vet, Dr. Jude noticed a new cataract in her left eye that wasn’t there just two weeks prior. Since then, we’ve been watching closely and supporting her every step of the way.

After that appointment, Sweetie was dropped off with our beloved dog sitter, Dianne, in Lexington—someone we trust immensely. While there, Sweetie followed Dianne around and then disappeared. Dianne eventually found her laying on her great-grandson’s mini trampoline 😮🐾

Fast forward to yesterday—Sweetie came up the stairs from the backyard all by herself. She was nervous, but she did it. Today, she crossed the second threshold into the house and managed to come inside on her own.

And then… the moment that really got me.

I was sitting with her and got up to fix myself some lunch. I turned around—and Sweetie had jumped up onto the back of the loveseat all by herself. She can’t go down the steps yet or jump down on her own, but the fact that she got up there is HUGE.

These are not small wins. These are massive steps forward.

We are so incredibly grateful for all the love, prayers, positive energy, and support being sent her way. It’s felt every single day.

Our McSweetie Sweets had a sudden disorienting episode tonight after bumping her head really hard. She’s lost her eyesight and cannot hear a thing. We believe she has had a concussion. I did an emergency healing session with Jen and she’s resting now and has a vet appointment first thing in the morning. If you feel called, please hold her gently in your prayers, love, and healing thoughts. We are so grateful for the support. 💛🐾
