Do dogs need life jackets on boats? 🚤

Well, your dog may think they’re part fish, but if they’re going on or in the water, the life jacket goes too.

A lot of pet parents assume strong swimmers are automatically safe on the water, but boating emergencies can happen fast. Waves, currents, exhaustion, slippery docks, and unexpected falls overboard can quickly turn a fun day into an emergency.

And if a pet falls into the water? Getting them safely back onboard is often much harder than people expect. So, dog life jacket safety should be top of mind when heading to the ocean, bay, or lake. 🌊

Swipe through for boating with dog tips that will keep your little wave chaser safe all summer long! And remember - we are open 24/7 if your boating day doesn’t quite go according to plan. Learn more - link in first comment.

Meet Snoop. ❤️🐾

Snoop is a 9-year-old Chihuahua and service dog for a young child. When he arrived at VEG ER for Pets in San Ramon, CA, he was unable to urinate due to a urinary obstruction and enlarged prostate.

His family feared they were out of options. In many situations like this, access to surgery due to financial limitations, or the resources required to provide this level of care, can create difficult barriers for families seeking treatment for their pets.

Fortunately, they found help!

At our VEG San Ramon hospital, Snoop received care through the Lifeline Veterinary Surgical Services program - a local initiative made possible by a generous grant from to VEG Cares. The Lifeline program helps pets and their people access life-saving surgical care when financial constraints might otherwise put treatment out of reach.

Now, Snoop is on the path to recovery.

What makes this story even more special? Snoop was the 50th pet to receive surgical care through the Lifeline program, helping local families access life-saving treatment they may not have otherwise been able to receive.

We're grateful to for helping make this work possible and to our San Ramon team for their dedication to pets and the people who love them. ❤️

You probably have a fire safety plan for your family - but does it include your pet? 🔥🐾

Summer brings more fire risks than many pet parents realize, from backyard grills and bonfires to fireworks, campfires, and even wildfires. Curious pets can accidentally get too close to open flames, hot surfaces, smoke, or dangerous debris in an emergency.

But don’t worry, we’ve created a safety checklist to help prepare for danger. And check out our suggestions for to-go bags. Being prepared is the first step in fire safety. 🎒

Having a plan in place ahead of time can make a huge difference if you ever need to act fast - and we are open 24/7 on National Pet Fire Safety Day and every day, to help anytime! Learn more - link in first comment.

When we upgraded our teams' scrubs with VEG ER for Pets' new logo, we had one big question: What do we do with thousands of scrubs we no longer need?

Instead of sending them to a landfill, we found a better solution: Thousands of scrubs recycled, dozens of animal hospitals participating, and thousands of pounds of textiles given a second life instead of going to waste.
That's what happens when people care enough to ask, and a team comes together to make it happen. ❤️🌎♻️🐾
