Those smiles are exactly why we love what we do! 🥹🐾 Did you know? 🤔

Here at Ambassadors, we offer family-style boarding! When your pup stays with us, they get more than a place to sleep—they get to be part of the Ambassador’s family. 🏡💗

Our family-style boarding means lots of love, playtime, attention, and plenty of opportunities to make themselves right at home!

The best kind of boarding is the kind where your dog comes home happy, tired, and already asking when they can come back. 😂🐶💕

Rocky's first swim lesson! 💦
Touch of Grey Rescue

Champ...the heart of a champion 🫶. Despite his arthritis he wants to be included. Today Champ decided to join in on Rocky's training session. 💪

We practiced taking turns using The Name Game. We are teaching each dog that their name is a promt for a food reward. The others dogs names are not a promt for food reward. ❤️

This helps Rocky to not "sn**ch" food reward, to listen and to wait for his name. Patience is key for his future as a therapy dog at Touch of Grey Rescue.

🐾 From Rescue to Resident:🐾

Rocky has stepped beautifully into his role as "house dog" at The Landings, Touch of Grey Rescue.

This photo captures him doing what he does best: providing quiet comfort, companionship, and endless love to those who need it most.

Sunday Stories with Touch of Grey:
The House Dog and the Hospice Dog
🤎🩶

When we opened The Landing, our transitional home for senior and special needs dogs, we knew we wanted a house dog. A dog that would be a consistent and joyful presence amidst the chaos, and at times the heartbreak, that comes with rescue.

More importantly though, our house dog would be a calm and reassuring companion to the other dogs arriving from shelters and other traumatic situations. Because no matter how hard we try to communicate with our beloved canine companions, the reality is they teach each other things in ways we simply cannot.

The Universe, working through Ambassadors Dog Training, delivered us a 7 year old hunk of chocolate love named Rocky who was being surrendered by his family. We decided Rocky would be our house dog. And as the ambassador for Touch of Grey Rescue, he would also be certified as a therapy dog.

The first time we brought Rocky to the vet, he wandered over to a couple who were seemingly awaiting news. Rocky sat right between them, offering up his big blocky head for some therapeutic pets. It was as if he was already trained for the work he’d be doing with humans…but how would he do with the dogs?

Bart came into the shelter as a stray, and it was pretty clear he’d lived a rough life. He was heartworm positive, malnourished, intact, had chronic ear and skin infections, an upper respiratory infection, and some of the worst arthritis we’ve ever seen.

The morning after Bart came to The Landing, he lost consciousness and collapsed into a puddle of his own urine. We thought we’d be lucky to have him for a few days.

But then Bart did what so many of our dogs do when they know they’re in a good place….he found a will to live. After a week of antibiotics, pain medication, baths, and good nutrition, Bart was feeling better. It was time to introduce him to Rocky.

Rocky remained calm and completely unbothered as Bart stared at him a little too long and got way too close for comfort. Bart is what we lovingly refer to as “a stinker”. He likely wasn’t very tolerant of other dogs in his prime. But within a couple of days, he and Rocky were buds. They roamed the yard together and started playing tug and sharing toys.

Since then, we’ve brought several other dogs into The Landing. But Rocky is the only dog that Bart will tolerate. And while Rocky is wonderful with every dog we introduce him to…he has a special bond with our stinker.

Not only is Rocky exceeding every expectation as our house dog - we think he just might love his job. 🩶 🤎

🚨 PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

We’ve been made aware of a reported outbreak of canine distemper affecting raccoons in the Turkey Creek area. While canine distemper cannot be spread to people, it is highly contagious and can be life-threatening to dogs and can also affect other wildlife.

Help keep your pets safe:
1. Keep your dog’s distemper and rabies vaccinations up to date.
2. Avoid allowing your dog to approach or interact with raccoons or other wildlife.
3. Do not feed or encourage raccoons to visit your property.

Signs of canine distemper may include:
• Fever
• Eye or nose discharge
• Coughing or difficulty breathing
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Tremors, muscle twitching, seizures, or other neurological signs (in more advanced cases)

If your dog has had contact with a raccoon or begins showing any of these signs, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.

❤️ Please SHARE this post to help raise awareness and protect pets throughout our community. Every share could help keep another dog safe.

🐾 Happy National Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Some dogs go to the office…

Rocky goes to work at The Landing.

As our official House Dog, Rocky has one of the most important jobs around. He welcomes frightened senior dogs as they begin their new chapter, shows them that they’re safe, and reminds them that life can still be full of wagging tails.

But even the best employees need training.

That’s why we’re incredibly grateful to Ambassadors Dog Training generously sponsoring Rocky’s training.

They’re helping him become the very best ambassador for senior rescue dogs - and we’re even working toward therapy dog certification so Rocky can spread joy far beyond The Landing 🩶

We have our house dog 🤎

This big lug was born on February 7, 2019. Touch of Grey Rescue was officially incorporated on February 11, 2019…just four days later. Once again the stars align 💫

Now, 7 years later…Rocky Balboa is our official house dog, brand ambassador, and future therapy dog. We will celebrate our birthdays together as he helps share our mission, support our Golden Souls and Pawsitive Pals programs, and welcome big dogs, little dogs, sick dogs, special-needs dogs, and old dogs to The Landing. With his happy wiggle butt, and predictable presence, Rocky will help every dog who walks through our doors feel safe, loved, and at home.

A huge thank you to Ambassadors Dog Training for finding this incredible boy, personally delivering him to us, and sponsoring his therapy dog certification and training. Stay tuned as we share his journey toward becoming an official therapy dog. 🤎🐾

We are also incredibly grateful to Eau Gallie Veterinary Hospital for generously sponsoring his first veterinary visit. Once again, our community comes through. ❤️‍🩹

Now for the important question…

Should Rocky Balboa keep his name, or should a dog with such an important role at Touch of Grey Rescue have a new name to mark his new chapter?

If you think we should rename him, drop your suggestions below! We’d love to hear your ideas. 🐾

We truly believe this big lug was always meant to be part of this story, and we can’t wait to see the lives he touches in the years ahead.

Welcome home, Rocky Balboa… or whatever your name may become. 💙🐾
