💔 a heartbreaking day in rescue — the kind of decision you never want to make.
Yesterday we received a call about a pup in severe respiratory distress. Even though we weren’t in a position to take on another dog, we knew we couldn’t turn her away without at least giving her a chance. She was rushed to the Emergency vet, where they tried placing her in an oxygen chamber, but when that wasn’t enough, she had to be intubated.
After hours of support, she was extubated so neurological tests could be run. It was then discovered she had suffered trauma to her back and lost the ability to move her legs. Despite assisted breathing and a continuous fentanyl drip, she was visibly uncomfortable and still couldn’t fully stabilize her breathing.
After carefully weighing her chances of full recovery and the quality of life she would face, the devastating decision was made to end her suffering and let her go peacefully.
Even though we weren’t able to save her, we are still covering her medical costs. Rescue work is never-ending, and so are the vet bills that come with it. If you would like to help us continue giving pets like Macy a fighting chance, please consider making a donation. Every bit truly makes a difference. ❤️
We wish every story had a happy ending, but the reality of rescue is that sometimes the most loving choice we can make is to give them peace. While we couldn’t save her life, we were able to make sure she left this world surrounded by compassion and care.
Run free, sweet Macy. You were loved. 🕊️❤️
