Day 4: Fire Safety

When choosing a boarding facility, fire safety is often overlooked—but it should be one of the most important factors in your decision. At Blue Ribbon Stable LLC, we have made significant investments to reduce fire risks and help protect the horses entrusted to our care.

Here are just a few of the measures we have in place:

1. Industrial Enclosed-Motor Fans – Every fan in our barn is an industrial, farm-grade enclosed-motor fan. Unlike many standard box fans or residential fans, enclosed motors greatly reduce the risk of dust-related electrical fires.
2. Limited Hay Storage in the Main Barn – We keep only approximately one week’s supply of hay in the main barn. The remainder is stored in a separate lower barn, minimizing one of the largest potential fuel sources in the event of a fire.
3. Fire-Rated Barriers – Sliding doors separating each horse wing, both arena entrances, and the shavings room are approved fire-rated barriers. These are designed to slow or prevent the spread of fire, providing valuable time during an emergency.
4. Wi-Fi Connected Heat Detection System – Our facility is equipped with 16 Wi-Fi-connected heat sensors throughout the barn. Unlike traditional smoke detectors, these sensors immediately send an alert directly to the owner’s phone if elevated temperatures are detected, even when no one is on the property.
5. Routine Barn Maintenance – The barn is cleaned on a regular basis to reduce dust, cobwebs, dirt, and other combustible materials that can contribute to fire hazards.
6. Fire-Retardant Spray Foam Insulation – Our barn has been professionally insulated with spray foam insulation that includes fire-retardant properties, adding another layer of protection to the facility.
7. Smoke-Free Property – Blue Ribbon Stable LLC is a completely smoke-free facility. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property, protecting both the health of our horses and people while eliminating an unnecessary fire risk.

Blue Ribbon Stable isn’t just home to amazing horses, we also have hard working barn cats (all spayed/neutered), dogs, goats, a sheep, mini donkey, chickens, and ducks. Many of our lesson students and boarders enjoy the company of our friendly fur and feathered friends.
