Doglando

Doglando Real. Natural. Whole-istic. The way dogs should be treated! An outdoor lifestyle for dogs! In doing so, our dogs created their own freedoms.
(235)

In everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo, we believe in thinking differently, we believe in providing dogs with experiences that will help them thrive in captive living, and we believe in having open communication and an exchange of dialog between all the human counterparts that are connected in enhancing each dog's quality of life experience. And the way we began challenging

status quo back in 2003, was to give our dogs the freedom of space. These included the freedom to learn, the freedom to express themselves as normal, freedom to be in nature, freedom to think, do, bark...

"Doglando became less about discovering something new, and more about uncovering something old." - Teena Patel

✨🐾 Through a Dog’s Eyes 🐾✨

Have you ever truly looked into a dog’s eyes?
Not just glanced… but looked—long enough to see the depth of a wild ancestry mixed with the softness of unconditional love.

A dog’s eyes are a bridge between worlds. 🌍
In nature, eyes are survival. They scan horizons, track movement in the grass, and catch the flicker of life in the shadows. They are watchful, alert, and fierce.

But in our homes, in our hearts, their eyes soften. They become storytellers. Eyes that once mirrored the wolf’s wildness now carry gentleness, trust, and a longing to connect with us. 💛

When a dog looks at you, they aren’t just seeing you.
They are memorizing your presence.
They are asking to understand you.
They are saying: “I am here. Are you?”

Every blink, every gaze, every soft glance is nature’s reminder that companionship is as vital as survival. Their eyes teach us to slow down, to feel deeply, and to remember that in every creature lies both the wild and the tender.

🐾 Look into your dog’s eyes today.
You might just see the universe looking back. ✨

The Science Behind Why Dogs Dig Holes

Digging behavior in domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) is a remnant of their evolutionary ancestry. In the wild, canids such as wolves, dingoes, and foxes used digging for survival-based purposes:
1. Thermoregulation – Soil acts as a natural insulator. Digging exposes cooler layers in hot climates and creates wind-sheltered depressions in colder climates, helping maintain optimal body temperature.
2. Denning instinct – Wild canids dig dens to whelp and raise offspring. These underground chambers provide protection from predators, concealment, and stable environmental conditions.
3. Foraging and prey capture – Many wild canids dig to uncover small mammals, reptiles, or insects hidden underground, an activity that engages both predatory drive and problem-solving skills.
4. Resource caching – Some species bury excess food to store it for later consumption, reducing waste and improving survival during scarcity.
5. Behavioral enrichment and stress release – Digging is a self-rewarding behavior, stimulating the release of dopamine and serotonin in the brain. It satisfies both physical exercise needs and mental engagement, reducing stress and boredom.

Because these behaviors are genetically ingrained, domestic dogs retain the instinct to dig even when survival no longer depends on it. The strength of this instinct varies by breed, with terriers and other earth-working breeds exhibiting particularly high digging motivation due to selective breeding for subterranean hunting.

Our Story

The University of Doglando offers 6 acres of completely fenced in play areas and a private doggy beach. Focusing on natural and innate doggy instincts, curiosity and play, all play areas are unique from one another allowing the dogs to be stimulated in different ways. Unlike all others, Doglando offers the cleanest, safest and most aerated indoor and outdoor play areas. Our back door and windows are left open through out the day to allow: our dogs the freedom of the indoors and the great outdoors, continuous circulation of fresh air keeping the indoors well aerated and free of airborne illnesses, and the natural breakdown of urine and f***l matter on real grass unlike collection under artificial turf. At University of Doglando, the welfare and happiness of our four-legged clients is our primary business, not an afterthought or a hobby. We are owned and operated by Certified Trainer and Canine Behavior Specialist, Teena Patel. We understand dogs. We know how to create the right environment combined with the proper elements of care, to produce a successful well-mannered family companion.

We opened our doors with the intention to discover a better way to provide daycare. As a working labratory, it is our mission to create processes that can be standardized, streamlined and strengthed to provide a stable and predictable envionment in which our dogs can thrive.

Through our work, we have pioneered the Canine Enrichment model and we have developed the 8 Spheres of Canine Enrichment that we teach in our Canine Enrichment Academy at Doglando University.
