This post has taken me a while to write. 🤍

About a month ago, I quietly closed the doors to Rocky’s Retreat after 9 beautiful years.

It wasn’t something I rushed to share — because this place meant so much to me and I needed some time.

Rocky’s wasn’t just a business.
It was pool days, lobby greetings, rehab swims… and dogs like who became family.

Thank you to everyone who trusted me and our team with your babies and made that little space feel like home. Truly some of the best years of my life.

While this chapter has closed, I’m still here — still loving dogs, just building something new.

Many of our clients remember Sonny, one of our kind, dog-obsessed team members who always showed up with a smile and genuine love for the pets in his care. On August 15, while on his way to work for Rocky’s Retreat, Sonny was unexpectedly detained by ICE.

What followed was incredibly difficult. He was transferred between multiple facilities where conditions were harsh, medical care was minimal, and basic needs were not consistently met. After weeks of uncertainty and no clear path forward, he was given the option to remain detained indefinitely or self-deport. He ultimately chose to self-deport for his safety and well-being.

Sonny and a few others were dropped off in southern Mexico with no ID, no money, and no support. They made their way to Mérida, where Sonny is now safe and working through the long asylum process. Until his paperwork is complete, he is not allowed to work, and the process can take months.

We’ve created a GoFundMe to help support Sonny with basic living expenses—food, shelter, transportation, and essential needs—until he is legally able to work again.
