May’s Case of the Month - Advancing genetics, one ewe at a time! 🐑✨

Artificial insemination (AI) helps producers improve their flocks by accessing genetics from top-quality rams without the cost of owning and maintaining them.

Because a sheep’s cervix is uniquely complex, AI in ewes requires a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure. Using two tiny incisions, we visualize the uterine horns and place the semen directly where it needs to be for the best chance of success.

The procedure takes about 10 minutes, and ewes are heavily sedated and provided local anesthesia for comfort. Afterward, the small incisions are sutured and sealed, and most ewes are up and walking almost immediately with a quick recovery.

It’s a simple, effective way to bring elite genetics into a flock while keeping animal welfare a top priority! 🩺🐑🌟
