Yesterday marked one whole year since sweet Jasper came into rescue.

Jasper is just over a year and a half old now (he celebrated his 1st birthday in rescue!) and is about 75 lbs of pure cuddly lap dog. He’s the happiest pup with the best helicopter tail that starts spinning the second he sees you. 😄 Whether it’s a shoe, pillow, bowl, book—or whatever’s closest—he proudly grabs it and parades it around when he’s excited.

Some of Jasper’s best traits:
🐾 Sweet, silly, and smart as can be
🐾 Great recall and potty/kettle trained
🐾 Walks nicely on leash
🐾 LOVES other animals and would thrive with another dog buddy
🐾 Always ready to cuddle (he thinks he’s small enough for your lap!)
🐾 Sock thief extraordinaire 🧦

Jasper is slow to warm up to new people—but once he trusts you, his heart is yours forever. Because of this, his ideal forever home would be:
🏡 Low-traffic
🐶 Has another confident, friendly dog
👨‍👩‍👧 With humans experienced in fear reactivity, who are willing to be patient (and maybe meet him a few times) so he can show his true, wonderful self.

Jasper is an incredible boy who just needs the right family to help him continue blossoming. If you think you could be his person, please reach out or apply today 🤍

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth! Although President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863; declaring all enslaved people in Confederate states to be free. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that the news reached the last group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. That day marks the true end of slavery in the United States and is now commemorated as Juneteenth.

🐾 Training Tip Tuesday 🐾

Fireworks may be a blast for humans, but for dogs, they can be downright terrifying. With their ultra sensitive hearing, the booms, cracks, and whistles of 4th of July celebrations often trigger intense fear and anxiety. Many pets go into panic mode, which can lead to dangerous behaviors like bolting, digging, or destructive chewing, especially if they’re outside or exposed to the chaos.

To keep your dog safe and calm, plan ahead. Walk your pup well before dark to burn off energy, and never leave them outside during fireworks. Create a quiet, secure space inside, preferably without windows and use white noise, music, or the TV to muffle the explosions. Kennels or cozy hiding spots with blankets can help your dog feel protected, and avoid taking them to fireworks shows altogether.

If your pet has extreme noise sensitivity, consult your veterinarian in advance about calming options like anxiety wraps, pheromone diffusers, or prescribed medications. Keep all doors and windows securely closed and ensure your dog’s collar and ID tags are on at all times. Microchipping adds an extra layer of protection in case your dog escapes in a panic. It’s also smart to have a recent photo and updated contact info ready in case you need to file a lost pet report quickly. Taking these precautions can make all the difference in keeping your pup safe during the holiday mayhem.

Lieutenant Maya of the Critter Patrol Division reporting for duty! I’ve done my first round of security checks and I’m proud to say there are no critters in my yard right now, which means I have a few minutes to introduce myself. As I said, my name is Maya; I am a Boxer/Staffy mix born November 17, 2022. I’m a friendly gal who gets along great with other dogs my size, but smaller “critter size” dogs and cats might not be the best fit for me.

When I’m not on patrol I enjoy playing with my furry foster brother, going for car rides, and taking walks. In fact, I love walks so much that I suggest you start (or continue) a weight lifting routine because I can be a bit of a puller until I get rid of some of my energy. Food is my jam, I inhale it quite fast, so I use a slow feeder to help me savor things a bit. Feel free to use my love of food to bribe, I mean train me when we have free time; I already know sit, down, paw, and drop it! Smarty pants in the house! At the end of the day, I just want what any girl wants, a nice warm snuggle and a bed to call home.

Think I’d be a good addition to your bed? Check out my link below and fill out an application today! 🧡
