Louie the pig had an adventure.
Someone left the gate open and he, with his two friends, got out.
They ate their way through the garden, moseyed through the barn… two went back to the pen.. but Louie had a wanderlust…
He made his way into the paddock and was snuffling around when all of a sudden a big gray mare came running up on him … so he ran… way down in the field and into the sticker bushes where he hid for about four hours.
Erika and I searched for him over the entire farm with flashlights and pig treats. We were about to give up when I said we should walk to the lower field one more time … and voila!….out he came… tired and thirsty .. he followed us up the hill and right into his house… he got a big drink of water and then it was lights out!
That was a work out!

Our friend’s horse is lost in the Banner Forest (Olalla/Port Orchard area)
They have been searching all night…

Twenty Years of Sanctuary:

A Tribute to Horse Rescue
Two decades ago, a promise was made to the forgotten, the broken, and the weary. Today, we celebrate 20 years of keeping that promise. For 20 years, this rescue has been a sanctuary where fear turns into trust and neglect turns into love. We remember the first nervous steps off the trailer. We remember the dull coats that now shine in the sun. We remember the horses who arrived with heavy hearts, only to find their spirit again in our pastures.
This milestone belongs to every horse who fought to heal. It belongs to the tireless volunteers who shoveled muck in the freezing rain and the blazing heat. It belongs to the donors whose generosity bought the hay, paid the vet bills, and kept the lights on.
Behind every scar healed and every successful adoption is a community that refused to look away. To the hundreds of horses who have called this place home: thank you for teaching us resilience. To everyone who has carried a bucket, shared a post, or offered a kind word over the last 20 years: thank you for making miracles happen, one hoofbeat at a time.Here is to the next chapter of healing, hope, and rescue…. Feel the love ❤️

I can talk about it a little easier with a week of time and space.

Rescue is not always about saving them, sometimes it’s giving them dignity, respect and letting them go. It’s not always about us and our feelings.
For sure the feelings are strong when you have loved and cared for an animal.. you know you want the best for them even if it means sacrificing your heart..
We let MoMo go.
It hurt all of us…. Every single one of us.
There truly was never a better horse and me saying that is a lot…but it’s true.
He was kind, personable, excellent manners and a good teacher… but he was in pain due to severe DSLD. We couldn’t cure it, we couldn’t fix it… in the end we couldn’t manage it. He was painful and having a hard time ..horses tell you when enough is enough.

We let him go… we cried and hugged him.

Thank you Sound Equine for your gentle hands. Thank you to Warren for hauling him.

Thanks to everyone for loving him.

Ahhhh… refreshing rain for the first time in a long while… so good for us!

Glad the bulk of the house is painted ! Let it rain!

Today is a volunteer day. Yes, we still have volunteers because we still have residents here. All of our volunteers are in it for the long haul for our horses, pigs and chickens…. The animals will live here as long as necessary or go to my other farm if this farm sells…. Maybe it will .. maybe it won’t. I can be picky about the sale… we had it worked out and then , well, it fell apart.. so I continue to work on maintenance and a few upgrades.

My premium neighbors made eggplant Parmesan … and shared it! So good! Thank you Ray and Muriel!

Yesterday we recycled our cardboard … walked the farm with a rolling magnet to pick up nails and screws. I fixed a broken board that Steele kicked. He is being a pain with the girls.. kicking walls and screaming like an old mare.😂

Everyone got their hooves trimmed yesterday. Molly was kind of antsy and agitated with us which is new.. she’s on a diet and needs to eat ALL the time or she thinks starvation has set in.

Clifford saw the vet and we decided that we would watch his “growth” for a while. Clifford is difficult to sedate and as well doesn’t tolerate anesthesia well… I don’t like to take risks unless we have something life threatening.
Also Roscoe saw the vet because he sliced his leg open .. at least it was a convenient time?
So we spent about 1000 dollars yesterday.. farrier and vetting.😳👀😂

The house is being painted.. I had picked out a color and it’s not quite as dark as I wanted but oh well.

Steele kicked his divider board and broke one of the 2x12x12’s in two.. like I always say.. something is always broken or needs fixing.

We are supposed to have almost a full week of rain next week.. and we need it!.. we welcome it!
