OKC Animal Welfare Our mission is to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of pets and people in OKC. Open daily, 9 a.m-5:30 p.m. for lost and found and adoptions.

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare's mission is to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of pets and people in OKC. OKC Animal Welfare serves more than 24,000 animals each year in the City of OKC, and we also provide animal sheltering services for the cities of Del City, Valley Brook and Tinker Air Force Base. You can adopt and look for lost pets at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter. We also

respond to reports of animal cruelty, injured animals, loose dogs, animals that are dangerous or a nuisance and enforce OKC's animal ordinances. Meet Dr. Haley, our incredible head veterinarian and a true game-changer for the pets (and people!) of Oklahoma City 💪🐶🐱

While every staff member at the shelter plays a vital role, Dr. Haley stands at the heart of it all. 🫶 From performing surgeries on litters of puppies so they can find forever homes, to jumping into emergency, life-saving interventions for newborn kittens—she does it all with compassion and skill ➡️💖

As the lead (and often only) veterinarian at the shelter, Dr. Haley’s dedication is unmatched.🐰 The demands are high, and veterinary positions in busy shelters like ours can be tough to fill long-term. But Dr. Haley has remained steady—providing consistent, high-quality care to thousands of pets while guiding her team and shaping the future of animal welfare in our city 🏡💗

🌿 Meet Willow – Our Day Trip Diva! 🌿

Willow had the BEST day ever on her recent outing! This sweet girl packed her tail wags and headed out on a little adventure—and let’s just say, she was living her best life!

She made friends wherever she went, and charmed everyone with her gentle, goofy personality. Whether it was riding in the car, exploring new sights, getting all cleaned up for her forever home or just enjoying the car ride - Willow shined no matter where she was! Willow is the perfect blend of playful and chill. She’s happy on a walk but equally content to snuggle up for some cozy cuddles. She's a pro at the "sit" and "shakes" and will gladly show them off any chance you ask!

Willow is back at the shelter and ready for her forever home! If you're looking for a new best friend, Willow might just be your girl.

🌟 Volunteer Appreciation Week Wrap-Up 🌟

As Volunteer Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact of the volunteers who make OKC Animal Welfare what it is. While this week is dedicated to celebrating their hard work, the truth is, we appreciate them every single day. The dedication, heart, and passion that these individuals bring to our shelter are truly inspiring.

The volunteers at OKC Animal Welfare show up every day with compassion and tireless energy. Whether they’re caring for the animals, supporting the shelter operations, or helping potential adopters find their perfect match, their commitment makes a world of difference. They provide the love, care, and attention that every animal needs to thrive and find a forever home. Their efforts don’t go unnoticed — they help ensure that the animals are in the best environment possible, and they create a warm, welcoming space for all who enter.

Each volunteer brings something unique to the table, contributing in their own meaningful way. Some offer comfort to shy pups, others assist with important administrative tasks, and many take on extra responsibilities that keep everything running smoothly. Ghost is the total package: sweet, smart, and full of playful energy—but also a big fan of cozy naps! At just 8 months old and around 35 lbs, he’s the perfect age and size to grow with your family.

He’s already potty trained, knows how to sit, and is wonderfully quiet—he’s not much of a barker. Ghost gets along great with other dogs, cats, and kids, making him an ideal companion for just about any home. He’s up to date on vaccinations and neutered, so he’s ready to move in and start making memories with you.

Where are all our black shepherd fans at?! Because this boy is the total package — brains, beauty, and the best chill/play balance you could ask for.

📸Oz rocked his indoor photoshoot like a pro. He knows sit, shake, and will even stand on command — talk about a good boy!

He’s got that classic shepherd loyalty, but with a calmer vibe that makes him easy to be around. Up for a walk? He’s in. Want to relax on the couch? He’s down. Basically, Oz is your guy.

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: John Gonshor 🌟

For our final Volunteer Spotlight this week, we’re excited to highlight the amazing John Gonshor, whose behind-the-scenes efforts are absolutely essential to the smooth operation of our shelter. While John may not always be front and center, his contributions are a vital part of the day-to-day care we provide for our animals. From tackling the never-ending laundry to keeping the yard mowed and tidy, John ensures that everything is running seamlessly.

His attention to detail and consistent hard work make a world of difference in maintaining a clean, organized, and functional environment for both our animals and staff. These seemingly small tasks play a huge role in making sure that the animals have the space and comfort they need while waiting for their forever homes. John’s dedication and willingness to do whatever is needed, no matter how big or small, allow the shelter to run efficiently and ensure that the animals are receiving the best care possible.

We simply could not do it without John! His behind-the-scenes support helps keep everything running smoothly, and we are incredibly grateful for his unwavering commitment.

We're excited to celebrate the incredible Kayla Stapleton, a volunteer whose passion for animals and advocacy is truly inspiring. Kayla’s dedication to helping our animals goes far beyond the typical volunteer role. Whether she’s guiding potential adopters to find their perfect pet or taking one of our shelter animals home for the weekend to give them a much-needed break, Kayla’s commitment to ensuring each animal gets the best chance at a forever home is unmatched.

Kayla has an extraordinary ability to connect with animals and people alike. This (April 29th), we’re blending graceful moves with wagging tails for a celebration you won’t want to miss! From twirls to tail wags, our adoptable animals are stepping into the spotlight alongside some very special dancers.
