🐾 LITTLE DOG ALERT! 🐾

You read that right! Everyone knows it's pretty rare for us to take in a little dog, but every once in a while, it happens! And we know there are always so many people asking us when we'll have a little dog available. Well, today, we have someone special to introduce!

Meet STEVIE! ❤️

Stevie was found on a porch, scared and all alone. Thankfully, a kind homeowner took him in and kept him safe, but sadly, nobody ever came looking for him.

Thanks to a call from one of our local Police Departments and an amazing foster who helps us with little dogs at a moment's notice, we were able to get Stevie into our care while he completed his 72-hour stray hold. That hold is now over, and Stevie will soon be available for adoption!

If you've been waiting for a sweet, friendly, confident little four-legged companion, Stevie might just be your guy!

A little about Stevie:
🐾 We estimate he is approximately 1–2 years old.
🐾 He's full grown and weighs less than 20 pounds!
🐾 So far, he's been friendly with other dogs and everyone he's met.
🐾 He will still need his veterinary care and neuter.
🐾 We're still getting to know him and will share more as we learn about his personality.

You can go ahead and submit an application for this cool little dude! (Link to application will be in comments)

🌟Please note: We anticipate receiving multiple applications for Stevie. Please be patient as we work through them. We will take the time needed to find the right fit, but ultimately, we can only choose ONE home.

We know little dogs are in high demand, but our goal isn't simply to find Stevie a home. It's to find him the RIGHT home. ❤️

Stay tuned as we get to know this little guy a bit better. We have a feeling he's going to make someone very happy!

Cosmo's happy ending!

Awesome update! ❤️

Remember our dogs from the Aberdeen WA Animal Control? One of them was a handsome Rottie who happened to be deaf. Well, this sweet boy, now named Cosmo, has found his person, and we couldn't be happier with how his story is unfolding!

An amazing gentleman met Cosmo, fell in love, and the two have since become quite the PNW trail team! Apparently, Cosmo absolutely LOVES hitting the trails with his new human. Together, they spend their days exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest, taking in the scenery, and enjoying the simple things in life.

And Cosmo being deaf? Well, it doesn't seem to slow this team down one bit!

They are learning to communicate with one another, with Cosmo picking up on different hand signals. But perhaps his biggest form of communication is simply being right by his human's side. From what we're hearing, that's exactly where Cosmo spends most of his time. ❤️

You know, shelter dogs are always a bit of an unknown when they leave the shelter. Sometimes they come with significant challenges and need a lot of time, patience, and work. Other times, they simply melt right into your heart and life, blending in as though they had always belonged there.

Cosmo has done just that.

And THIS is why we keep doing what we do. Because every once in a while, we get to see a story like Cosmo's unfold, and it reminds us just how much a chance can change a life.

But Cosmo isn't the only one waiting for that chance.

We still have dogs sitting in shelters, waiting for someone to see what we see. There are currently two dogs in Hoquiam that we truly believe are going to make some REALLY GREAT companions for someone. They just need someone willing to take a chance on them.

You don't have to find the perfect dog. Sometimes you just have to find the dog who is perfect for you.

Who is willing to give a shelter dog their Cosmo moment? 🐾❤️

🎃🐾 A LITTLE HALLOWEEN REMINDER FROM SOME OF OUR CUTIES! 🐾🎃

A few adorable pups (Rex the clown and Frankie the Black/White boy are both adoptable) from last night are here to remind you about Halloween Safety for Pets!

While many of us love getting dressed up, seeing all the little ghosts and goblins come to the door, and enjoying the creative costumes and festivities, Halloween can be a stressful and sometimes dangerous time for our four-legged family members.

And let's not forget ALL THAT TEMPTING CANDY! 🍬

I mean, it's hard enough for us humans to keep our hands out of the candy jar. It can be just as hard for our pups to keep their paws (or noses) out of it! 😂

Most people know that chocolate is dangerous for dogs, but there are other hazards to watch for, too:
🐾 Candy wrappers can cause choking or intestinal blockages.
🐾 Chewy and sticky candies can become choking hazards.
🐾 Sugar-free candy containing xylitol can be extremely toxic.
🐾 Costumes and decorations can pose risks if chewed or swallowed.
🐾 Constant doorbell ringing and strangers coming to the door can create anxiety for nervous pups.

If you have a dog who gets nervous with all the commotion, consider giving them a quiet, comfortable space away from the festivities. Make sure they have fresh water, a cozy place to relax, and are safely tucked away from the front door.

A little preparation goes a long way!

Let's make sure everyone in the family, including our four-legged members, gets to enjoy a FUN, HAPPY, AND SAFE HALLOWEEN! 🎃🐶

From all of us at Timber Tails K9 Rescue, have a spooktacular Halloween! 🧡

🐾 SPECIAL DOGS. SPECIAL DEAL. 🐾

Some dogs are truly wonderful. ❤️ But sometimes, it takes a special person to see past their age, fear, the reactivity, or the behaviors that make them harder to adopt.

These dogs need more than someone who thinks they’re cute. They need a human partner willing to invest time, patience, consistency, and training to help them navigate the world and become the best version of themselves.

And honestly? Adoption events aren’t always their place to shine. In a crowded, unfamiliar environment, people often see the fearful or reactive exterior instead of the incredible dog we know is waiting underneath.

So, we’re trying something special for a few special dogs:

🐾 Apply to adopt.
🐾 Come meet the dog.
🐾 If you’re willing to commit, to put in the work, schedule 3 training sessions with a trainer (our preferred trainer is All Fur Them ).
🐾 Take your new buddy home, complete the training sessions, and we’ll waive the adoption fee!

Why? Because we know how amazing these dogscreally are! Because we want these dogs to have a real chance and a PERMANENT home. We want their future humans to have the tools and support they need to succeed. And we know that sometimes, the right match needs a little extra help getting started.

These dogs may not be the easiest to adopt, but that doesn't mean they have any less love to give. They just need someone willing to see their potential and help them get there.

❤️ The right person can change everything. Could that person be you?

If you can't adopt, SHARE! Let's find these wonderful dogs their forever homes.

Dogs available for this program:
* Juniper
* Onyx
* Dutton
* Bolt
* Krypto

🚨 REMEMBER THE CHAOS LITTER? 🚨

These six little criminals came to us as an emergency rescue through Westport PD. They were cute! They needed some care. And little did we know, we had just busted an entire organized chaos ring. 😂🐾

Their rap sheets were growing by the day:
🚔 Destruction of property
🚔 Felony-level cuteness
🚔 Aggravated assault with puppy teeth
🚔 Multiple counts of causing absolute mayhem

Clearly, these hardened criminals needed some serious intervention. So, after quarantine, they headed straight to prison! 🔒🐶

This week, I got to see all six of these former troublemakers, and WOW! What a difference!

These puppies are learning manners, walking on leashes like pros (well, mostly… unless they hear my voice and decide their handlers need to be dragged over for an immediate reunion 😂), and ALL SIX ARE HOUSE TRAINED!

They are growing into amazing young dogs, learning the skills they need to become wonderful family companions. And now? They're ready for their next assignment: FOREVER HOMES! ❤️

For now, we're sharing their original puppy mugshots. But keep your eyes peeled next week for a spooky lineup as these six suspects get dressed up for Halloween! 👻🎃

Applications are being accepted NOW!

Ready to take one of these reformed troublemakers home? Send us an application and get ready for a lifetime of love, laughter, and just a little bit of chaos. ❤️🐾

⚡ ⚡ MEET DUTTON: FOUR PAWS, FULL THROTTLE, ZERO CHILL! ⚡

A few months ago, Dutton was sitting in a local shelter, facing the very real risk of euthanasia simply because the shelter was at capacity. 💔 Today, he's looking for someone who can keep up with him!

And when we say Dutton does everything at 150%, we mean EVERYTHING.

This boy is smart. He's driven. He's athletic. He's basically a lightning bolt with four paws and a to-do list. ⚡🐾

And weighing in at just under 50 pounds, Dutton is the perfect package of compact, agile, and FULLY ATHLETIC. He's built to move, made for adventure, and ready to put those four paws to work!

🏃 Need a running partner? Dutton's lacing up before you are.

🚴 Need a biking buddy? He's ready to roll.

🥾 Want a hiking partner who won't tap out at mile one OR mile twenty? Dutton is YOUR dude!

He's got the stamina, the brains, and the enthusiasm to take on adventures with a human who loves being active as much as he does. This is not your couch-potato, two-block-and-call-it-a-day kind of dog. Dutton has places to go, things to sniff, and miles to conquer!

🐕 Now, let's talk about his social life.

Dutton sometimes likes to be the self-appointed CEO of the dog park. If another dog comes in hot, ready to challenge his position as the biggest man on campus, Dutton is more than willing to participate in that board meeting. And by board meeting, we mean a potential throwdown.

BUT! With proper introductions and a compatible, dog-friendly canine companion, he can do just fine. He needs thoughtful handling and humans who understand that not every dog is going to be his cup of kibble.

❤️ Who is Dutton looking for?

Someone active. Someone confident. Someone who appreciates a smart, driven dog and is ready to give him both physical exercise AND mental challenges.

Someone who wants a partner in adventure, not just a dog to decorate the couch.

Dutton was saved from a shelter when space was running out. Now, he's ready for his next chapter — one filled with trails, adventures, and a human who sees just how much potential this boy has.

Less than 50 pounds. 150% energy and drive. Unlimited adventure potential.

⚡ Can you keep up with Dutton? ⚡

🐱👶 “Is the dog cat-tested and kid-tested?”

This is one of the questions we are asked constantly, and the answer is more complicated than many people realize.

Cat and kid testing isn't a one-time, 20-minute evaluation that guarantees a dog will be safe in every home.

A dog might be wonderful with children at the park but struggle when kids are running through the living room, playing with toys, or invading their personal space.

A dog might walk calmly on a leash around cats but view the family cat as prey when it suddenly takes off running through the house.

Why? Because context matters. A LOT.

Just like adult humans, children and cats have their own personalities, behaviors, and boundaries. Some cats are confident, dog-savvy professionals who have lived with dogs their entire lives. Others want absolutely nothing to do with those strange, furry creatures invading their kingdom. 👑🐈

And children? Well, there's a pretty big difference between a calm teenager who understands dog body language and a toddler who thinks the dog's tail is a fun toy.

So, what does this mean if you have children or cats and want to adopt a dog?

It means you need to be a dedicated, responsible owner who is willing to help everyone succeed.

🐾 Children must be taught how to interact appropriately with dogs, respect their space, and recognize when a dog needs a break.

🐾 Dogs need time to decompress, learn household routines, and understand what is expected of them.

🐾 Cats need safe spaces where they can escape and feel secure, without being chased or cornered.

🐾 Introductions need to be intentional, gradual, and supervised. Management, barriers, and separation are sometimes necessary, especially while everyone is learning.

🐾 And most importantly, you need to understand that management and training are ongoing responsibilities, not guarantees that every dog will be compatible with every household.

At Timber Tails K9 Rescue, we will absolutely tell you when we know a dog cannot safely live with cats or children. We take that information seriously, and we won't pretend a known concern doesn't exist just to get a dog adopted.

But there is a difference between what we observe during an evaluation and what a dog will do in every possible home environment.

We can gather information. We can observe behavior. We can identify concerns and help you make an informed decision.

What we cannot do is guarantee how a dog will behave in every situation, with every child, or around every cat.

“Kid-tested” and “cat-tested” are not magic stamps of approval.

They're pieces of information that help us make better placement decisions.

Our goal isn't simply to get a dog into a home. It's to help create a successful, safe, lifelong match for the dog and the family.

Because rescue isn't just about adoption day. It's about setting everyone up for success long after the dog walks through your front door. ❤️🐾

Have questions about adopting a dog when you have kids or cats? Ask us! We'd much rather have an honest conversation before adoption than see a dog returned because expectations didn't match reality.

WHAT DID I DO TODAY? 🐾

Oh, you know… just a little light dog-rescue work. 😂

🐾 Took another puppy to prison to join its siblings and get some extra training.

🐾 Brought dogs out of prison for their spay/neuter appointments.

🐾 Headed to Aberdeen Aberdeen WA Animal Control and picked up Gary, the boy nobody chose to adopt when the shelter posted him. 💔

🐾 Went to Hoquiam Police Department , vaccinated three dogs, and got to meet three amazing boys who are looking for homes.

🐾 Came home and started figuring out how to situate EIGHT extra dogs in my house for spay/neuter tomorrow. Because apparently, sleep is optional in rescue. 🤦‍♀️😂

Yep. It's been a DAY. And it isn't over yet!

But here's the thing. ❤️

The most important part of today wasn't the driving, the juggling, the appointments, or figuring out where everyone needs to be tomorrow.

It was meeting some amazing dogs in Aberdeen and Hoquiam who desperately need someone to choose them.

Between the two shelters, we have FIVE dogs looking for homes. YES, FIVE!

Hoquiam Animal Control is at MAX CAPACITY. They have nowhere left to go. And we want to help Aberdeen BEFORE they find themselves in that same position.

These aren't just kennel numbers. They are individual dogs with personalities, potential, and so much love to give. They deserve the chance to leave the shelter and become somebody's family.

We can't do this alone. We need our community to step up.

🏡 Can you adopt? Please reach out!

❤️ Can't adopt? Share this post. You never know who might see it and fall in love.

🐾 Already thinking about adding a dog to your family? Please consider one of these shelter dogs.

Rescue isn't always pretty. It's a lot of miles, a lot of logistics, a lot of laundry, and a whole lot of love. Sometimes it's exhausting. Sometimes it's heartbreaking. And sometimes, it's getting to be the person who says, "You're coming with me. You matter, too."

Today, Gary got that chance. While he is still looking for an adopter, he gets out of the shelter into the living hands of a Freedom Tails handler!

Now let's find homes for the others. ❤️

Dogs looking for homes:
1. Young Doodle mix boy.
2. Young adult red chocolate lab. Likely English lab (not American).
3. Adult male possibly Weimeriner mix.
4. Young male shepherd husky mix
5. Young adult female pit mix.

Let's keep those shelter doors opening in the right direction. 🐾❤️
