Our Cornish girls came to us in November 2024. Meaning they are a few months away from turning two years old.
They are living their best lives with handsome Elvis and beautiful Priscilla 😍

I would like to give a big shout out to Gwen, Carolyn and Kim for always helping with vet appointments!
Today was a double appointment day. While Kim was taking a cat to Timberland in Chehalis, Gwen took Enzo to his bandage change at Deschutes in Tumwater.
Carolyn took Enzo on Monday. It is super challenging sometimes, especially with Enzo's bandage changes every other day. I could not do this with the help from all of you!
Susie is making the trip to Astoria tomorrow for a feral cat who needs a dental before we are able to release him again.

THANK YOU, YOU ALL ARE AMAZING ! ❀️

Fyi i heard Enzo of course got his pup cups!!!
And his paw is healing beautifully!!!!

We are on our way home from the first bandage change after his toe amputation on Thursday.
It was not fun! He will get extra pain and anxiety meds next time. So Enzo definetly deserved a pup cup!
I think i might buy some whip cream too! He is such a trooper and sweet boy thru all this.
I was hoping to do bandage changes myself, but that is not an option at this point.
It is apparently quite tricky in Enzo's case and today they actually "padded" in between his healthy toes to keep them from rubbing and getting sores and the injured part had to be cleaned and was covered in honey. He will need bandage changes every two days for at least a while then we might be able to stretch it to three days.
But this needs to heal as quick and perfect as humanly possible so we can move to the next step.
He is feeling much better after the pup cup tho!
I know from experience sweets make EVERYTHING better !!!! 🀣
Who is voting for daily pup cups??

I am not going to lie. Despite worrying about our boy Enzo being in surgery, Carolyn and I had a fun day in Astoria today. It was like a mini vacation really!
We started the morning with a yummy coffee right on the water. Searching for see lions and finding the cutest pigeons! We did see a see lion swimming in the distance too.
After that i almost had a heart attack driving over this huge bridge (i don't do hights!).
Then a walk along the beach and lunch at an awesome mexican restaurant. After that more coffee and see lion searching and before we knew it it was pick up time!

Thank you, Carolyn, for accompanying Enzo and me!
I had a great time and i know Enzo enjoyed your cuddles!

Ok friends! You want the good news or the bad news first?

Let's do good news!
Good news is Enzo's paw is fixed. Luckily only one toe needed to be amputated, which went very well and should heal just fine. Enzo also was neutered today.

The bad news is, he did not have fho surgery to fix his dislocated hips.
Because of the injury on his paw he is not using that one hind leg at all and won't be until the paw is healed.
But he needs to be able to use both of his hind legs for a proper and equal sided revovery after the double fho surgery.
Otherwise his body wouldn't be able to form a β€˜false joint’ which is made up of surrounding muscles, connective tissue, and scar tissue. This makes absolute sense. Enzo's surgeon was only able to make that call after actually physically seeing the injury on the paw.

Of course my immediate thought went "omg can he be ok with two dislocated hips for three to four weeks"? Dr. Zedwick assured me that this is what needs to happen and he will be on pain management the entire time.
And honestly, he has been doing great on the Carprofen and Gabapentin.

So, while we were, of course, disappointed, we feel this is the absolute right decision.
Today the first important part in his recovery was accomplished and as soon as he will start using his paw we will move to the next step!

Financially you guys can see today's bill. The double fho surgery in a few weeks will be $2000 max, so we were told today. That means we will be within range as anticipated.

Enzo will be fine but it'll just be a little longer.

Thanks to all of you who rooted for this handsome boy today ❀️

Unqualified "trainers" may tell you to just use an indestructible crate if your dog panics and is afraid to be left alone. This is one of the many well-meaning but dangerous pieces of advice given by people who are not qualified separation anxiety trainers.

While crate training has its place in some areas of dog training - house training, management and medical recovery come to the top of my mind, crating for separation anxiety is not one of those applications.

And separation anxiety definitely can't be cured by sending your dog away to boot camp. But there is hope! If you and your dog need help overcoming separation anxiety, reach out! As a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, I can help with either 1:1 training or my self-paced course.
