RBARI is a leading no-kill animal shelter dedicated to providing second chances, safe refuge, medical care, and forever homes to local homeless dogs and cats in NJ. (RBARI), the leading no-kill animal shelter in Northern New Jersey, is dedicated to second chances by providing safe refuge and essential medical and behavioral care, along with new forever homes to New Jersey’s homeless and abused dog

s and cats. Focusing on animals with the greatest need, RBARI is especially committed to those often rejected, including seniors; urgent medical cases; and surrenders. RBARI regularly pulls from local animal control facilities, thus placing an emphasis on “local first", allowing us to impact the rate of euthanasia as well as reduce the homeless population. RBARI also supports the community, assisting in animal welfare emergencies and working with partner organizations to provide low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for communities in need. We also work with our TNR partners to help decrease the overpopulation and stop the cycle of homelessness and abuse too many animals suffer.

Stingray and Silverado are getting ready for fall 🍂🧡

Meet Silverado and Stingray - these two cuties have come a long way from being scared little feral kittens!

Silverado (orange) and Stingray (black & white) were trapped after being found in a resident’s yard. It took months of socialization work from their dedicated foster momma to teach them that humans aren’t so scary, and they’ve finally grown into two confident and loving little kittens.

Both boys can be on the shy side when first approached, especially Stingray, but once you spend a little time with them their personalities truly shine. Stingray loves to play with mouse toys and anything small he can bat around. He puts on a tough front at first but once you start petting him he’ll absolutely melt and give the quitest, deep rumbly purrs.

Silverado is a little more confident off the bat and could care the less about the toys in his cage - all he really wants is for you to give him lots of attention and affection. We can tell he’s going to be a total cuddler!

They’re going to become great companions to anyone willing to give them a chance, and we can’t wait to see them continue to blossom in a home.

Meet Missy Girl!

This young lady is as sweet as can be. She loves attention and is very laid back, and even gets along with the other cats. She can be found sleeping in her cozy beds, rolling in catnip, or snuggling with a staff member. Missy Girl would make a great addition to any home.

Meet Dice!

Dice is a 6 year old Rat Terrier looking for a special committed foster or adopter.

As a result of never being neutered, he ended up with a large perianal hernia that entrapped his bladder, leaving him in urgent need of emergency surgery and unable to go to the bathroom. Everything is back in place now and he’s a scared little guy but sweet once he warms up, and recovering from his ordeal.

We may still need to get him a second surgery to fully repair the hernia depending on how things heal, but would love to find him a nice quiet home to recover.

Please submit an application to meet him at rbari.org/adopt

Stormy Update 🤍🩶🖤

After X-rays and extensive diagnostic testing, we finally have answers for our sweet Stormy. Our veterinary team determined that she has a torn ACL, an incredibly painful injury that will require surgery to repair.

Right now, Stormy has too much swelling to safely perform the surgery. For now, the priority is keeping her comfortable, managing her pain and giving the swelling time to come down. As soon as she is ready, Stormy will undergo ACL repair surgery, followed by the rehabilitation and recovery she will need to get back on her feet!

Thankfully, she won’t be facing that recovery alone.

Our wonderful rescue partners at Pitties and Pals Rescue already have a foster home lined up for Stormy, which means that after surgery, she will have a safe, loving place to heal - and people by her side every step of the way.

Now we need our community to help us get her there.

We are continuing to raise funds for Stormy’s surgery, medical care and the rehabilitation that will follow. Despite how much pain she has been in, Stormy remains the sweetest girl, trusting the people around her to help her feel better.

We made a promise to be there for her, and together with Pitties and Pals, we intend to keep it.

Every donation toward Stormy’s care helps make that possible. We simply could not say yes to dogs like Stormy without a community willing to stand beside them when they need us most.

Thank you for being there for her. Thank you for helping us give Stormy the chance to heal! ❤️ 🐾

❤️ Petey: Finally Getting Relief – and Ready for the Peace, Comfort and Love He Deserves ❤️

Love the Breed. Understand the Breed.

Behind the adorable faces of French Bulldogs is a breed that is predisposed to lifelong medical challenges. As their popularity has grown, so has the number coming into rescue in need of extensive medical care.

At RBARI, we see that reality firsthand.

💔 Five-year-old Petey arrived in terrible pain after years of chronic ear infections went untreated.

By the time he reached us, one ear was severely abscessed, his ear canal had ruptured, and a massive infection had caused his entire face to become painfully swollen. He was so uncomfortable that he could barely eat.

After hospitalization and intensive antibiotic treatment, Petey is finally feeling better. But years of damage cannot be undone with medication alone. He is undergoing surgery and treatments to permanently address his painful ear disease. Petey also has chronic dry eye and will require lifelong eye medication.

Through it all, Petey has remained a quiet, gentle dog who yearns for a peaceful home to recover. We are looking for a local foster or adopter willing to help Petey through his healing and give him the chance to enjoy life as a happy, carefree pup. [include link to his bio]

Frenchies can be wonderful companions. They can also face orthopedic, neurological, respiratory, gastrointestinal, eye, skin and other medical problems that require significant veterinary care and lifelong commitment.

💙 Meet Zeus: Ready to Roll 💙

🐾 At RBARI, We Love Frenchies. But Loving Them Means Understanding Them.

Three-year-old Zeus came to RBARI paralyzed from an old spinal injury. His old injury left him paralyzed, but he has plenty of spirit left in him!

Zeus loves his wheelchair, scoots around surprisingly fast and enthusiastically plays with his toys. He even tries to pull himself into a standing position, and with continued physical therapy, he may eventually develop some spinal walking or improved mobility.

Zeus is incontinent and requires bladder expression, but he is incredibly cooperative with his care. He needs an adopter who understands his special needs and is committed to helping him live the active, happy life he deserves. [include link to his bio]

Love the Breed. Understand the Breed.

Frenchies are wonderful companions who can also face orthopedic, neurological, respiratory, gastrointestinal, eye, skin and other medical problems that require significant veterinary care and lifelong commitment.

If you love Frenchies, please consider adoption. And if you are considering purchasing any brachycephalic breed, learn about the health challenges associated with them and make informed, responsible choices.

Because loving a Frenchie means loving more than the cute face. It means being prepared to care for the whole dog for a lifetime.

What a difference just a few days filled with love, medical care, and the support of our community can make.

When Elaine came to RBARI, she was in urgent need of care. She was emaciated with significant muscle wasting, covered in fleas, and battling ear, eye, and upper respiratory infections. She needed help right away, which, thanks to your support, we were able to provide.

Today, we’re already starting to see a whole new Elaine. She’s been cleaned up, she’s less congested, and the inflammation in her affected eye is improving. She does have a slight head tilt, likely related to her ear infection, which we’ll continue to monitor as she heals.

Elaine still has a lot of healing and growing to do, but we’re encouraged by her progress. She’s eating great, has a wonderful appetite, and despite everything she’s been through, she is incredibly sweet.

It’s only been a few days, but Elaine is already showing us what your support makes possible. Because our community stepped up for her, she has the medical care, nourishment, safety, and time she needs to recover.

She still has a road ahead of her, and we’ll be right beside her as she continues to heal. Thank you for being part of Elaine’s recovery.

Our 2026 Mid-Year Impact Report is here. 💙

Every number represents a life changed - an animal brought to safety, emergency care provided when it mattered most, a foster home opened, or a second chance made possible.

So far this year, 749 animals have been adopted or placed with rescue partners, and 105 critical medical cases have received lifesaving care.

Inside the report, you’ll meet just some of the animals behind those numbers - including Moon, Saul, Mighty Max, and so many others whose lives changed because someone like you was there when they needed help.
