The only thing spookier than getting a litter of stray puppies on Halloween? 👻 When they all test positive for giardia! 😱

It's just another day in the life at an animal shelter, so it feels like a fitting way to kick off Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. 😝

Our Animal Services Officers recently rescued a group of dogs in Marin County and are now actively investigating this case with other agencies. Some of the dogs had been reported missing by their owners, and we've since been able to reunite them with their worried families.

It's possible that the remaining dogs, pictured here, also have owners who are missing them. If you believe one of these dogs belongs to you, or you have information about their owners, please contact our Animal Services Department at 415-883-4621. We will be requiring proof of ownership.

**Please note that while these dogs may become available for adoption if no owners are found, they are NOT available for adoption at this time.**

Cole and Seni recently brought in a donation of 12 cat blankets for our adoption cats. These fabulous blankets were created by the Cat Club at Kent Middle School!

This student club meets weekly on campus and together they created the blankets to donate. They visited the shelter to drop off their lovely donation, and not only did they get to meet a special adoption kitten, they also gave one of their blankets directly to a family adopting a cat!

Cole and Seni both attended our Humane Summer Camp earlier this year and were inspired to do more to help shelter cats. Thank you to both Cole and Seni, and to all the club members, for your dedication and hard work!

Patrick Stewart will be dearly missed! We're so grateful that he used his platform to advocate for pit bulls, dispel long-enduring myths about the breed, call for an end to dog fighting, and work to end puppy mills. A true captain!

Join us in honoring Sir Patrick Stewart with the 2021 Pit Bull Advocate & Protector Award for all of his incredible work in advocating for pit bulls! See more.

You've gotta BEE kidding us! 🐝 We're buzzing with questions like, "Why is Stelmaria still here? Who wouldn't want to adopt this dog? How can anyone resist this face?"

Stelmaria is a gentle, mellow, 10-year-old Shepherd mix who gives incredible cuddles and makes a fabulous office companion. She doesn't pull on leash, is good at meeting other dogs, and loves making new human friends. Basically, she's perfect!

Stelmaria's in a foster home right now so if you'd like to meet her or learn more about her, give us a call at 415-506-6225.

Do you know this dog's family? She was found on Kensington Road in San Anselmo on Saturday, October 24. She has a collar with no tags and a microchip with out-of-date contact information. We would love to get this frosty-faced gal home where she belongs.

If you have any information, please call us at 415-883-4621 and reference animal ID #314685. Please share widely to help us track down her family!

Let's TACO bout Junior! 🌮

Specifically, why is he still here? We are truly at a loss. This boy is SO special and deeply beloved by everyone at the shelter.

Junior is 4 and a half, infectiously cheerful, and delightfully curious. He's also SO smart! He wants an affectionate family that can offer him structure and training to help him thrive - and we're sure that family is out there!

His adoption fee is sponsored by his fans, so there's no reason why he shouldn't go home ASAP. Come meet him at our Novato shelter! Give us a call at 415-506-6225 if you'd like to set up an appointment.

Seeing your dog involved in a fight, whether they were the one attacked or the attacker, can be traumatic. When faced with this high-stress, scary situation, it’s hard to keep a cool head. Here are a few things to remember.

“Hormones spike during a conflict, and dogs can take a long time to calm down.”
