Welp we know we already posted about FOXTAILS but we needed to send an “action” shot: we pulled these out of ONE patient’s paws. And this isn’t even the first patient we’ve seen for FOXTAILS in the last month!

With the dry conditions and the strong winds, it really does seem like they’re everywhere. Even when you try to avoid them (as this dog’s owners did and do), they are still seem to be cropping up wherever there’s plant life. Make sure to check your pets after ALL walks, or even prolonged periods out in the backyard. 🐾PAWS🐾 and ⭐️EARS⭐️ are common places they like to start. The sooner they’re caught, the better!!

It’s FOXTAIL SEASON again here in CA. We’ve already had a few pets come in to see us for these, so we thought it was a good time to remind everyone to BE ON THE LOOKOUT!! They are cropping up EVERYWHERE so be sure to brush up on you foxtail tips:

🦊Check your pets after EACH walk or any time spent outdoors. Even if you don’t have foxtails growing in your backyard/in your neighborhood (you probably do), the wind can carry these things far.
🦊Check your pets ALL OVER but especially feet/paws and in-between toes, as well as ears- and don’t forget to CHECK YOURSELF!
🦊Pull any you might find growing in your backyard IMMEDIATELY. Best to catch them when they’re GREEN- the dryer they are, the better they are at sticking and migrating.
🦊If you suspect your pet has a foxtail CALL US immediately. The sooner we can intervene, the less invasive the treatment will be. These guys are built to MIGRATE and the further the go, the more damage they cause
🦊Check to see if your groomer can do a foxtail clip, or better yet get some booties and/or a foxtail mask for your more curious sniffers. These are great barriers to foxtails and other stickers, and will prevent them from imbedding.
