Busy day yesterday! I saw 3 of the most perfect Aussies you’ve ever met, and then I met 2 new doodle friends who get completely shaved down for the summer because they go on some serious camping, hiking and swimming adventures! Sounds like a great life! The Aussies are Dakota, Dillon and Rebel! The doodles are Oakley and Arlo! Thank you so much to their families for trusting me to take care of them! I’m so grateful!😊🐾

One of my very favorite Aussie friends, Dakota!! Did you know that according to breed standard, Aussies are actually only supposed to be minimally trimmed, meaning their hair is basically supposed to be left as it naturally grows! Unlike poodles, Shih Tzus, etc. Aussies are a double coated breed whose hair only grows to a certain length and then stops. Cutting their hair short all over CAN actually damage the coat irreparably. That’s why I personally am hesitant to cut their naturally beautiful coats, unless there is a very good reason to do so, such as old age, medical necessity, or severe matting. The way to keep these guys cool is not by cutting hair, it’s by keeping them well groomed and helping them shed out all the dead undercoat! Also! Shaving does in no way make them shed less! They still shed just as much, the hair is just shorter!
