Did you know your pet’s food and water bowls can harbor more bacteria than a toilet seat? 😷

Dirty pet bowls can become a breeding ground for a variety of harmful bacteria and pathogens. Here are some of the most common and concerning types:

Salmonella
➡️Can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and fever in both pets and humans.
🧼 Often linked to raw or spoiled food residue.

E. coli
➡️ Causes gastrointestinal upset and can be dangerous, especially to young, elderly, or immunocompromised pets (and people).
🧴 Grows rapidly in leftover food and standing water.

Listeria monocytogenes
➡️ Can cause severe illness in pets and is especially dangerous to pregnant women and the immunocompromised.
🥩 Often found in raw or undercooked pet food.

Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA)
➡️ Can lead to skin infections or more serious issues. Pets can be carriers and transmit it to humans.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa
➡️ A bacteria found in slime (biofilm) that develops in water bowls.
🌊 Resistant to antibiotics and hard to remove without proper cleaning.

How Often Should You Clean Your Pet’s Bowls? 🧼

✅ Daily:
🦴 Food Bowls – Wash after every meal with hot, soapy water.
💧 Water Bowls – Clean and refill every day to prevent slimy biofilm buildup.

✅ Weekly:
Sanitize bowls by soaking in hot soapy water for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Or, put them in the dishwasher.
