We'd like to thank our friends at Norwalk Clean Scene for graciously donating dryer time for some of our shelter laundry. As many of you know, our commercial grade dryer is down and it has made shelter work even more difficult than usual!

We do have a replacement dryer coming soon, but in the meantime, the support of Clean Scene is a lifesaver. Thanks also to all of the individuals and local businesses who've reached out to offer assistance. We appreciate you all!

Adorable Bentley got to go on an outing today with Tammi and Dave. He picked out his own bone at TSC and made some new friends at Fin Feather and Fur. They gave him some love and some treats and made his day fantastic! Looks like he was tuckered out on his ride back to the shelter. 😴 This wonderful boy is available and waiting for his forever family🥰

Here's some cuteness to put a smile on your face. Nemo is doing great today and navigating on 3 legs better than we expected. He is feeling much better and acting more like his goofy self. 🐾❤️ He still has a lot of recovery time ahead of him but things are looking good. Again, thank you all for your continued support. It means the world to us and our Furry friends.

Okay, shelter friends, we've got a BIG ask of you this morning!

Our large, commercial grade dryer is down, and it could be some time before the replacement arrives. If anyone is able to dry batches of CLEAN laundry, it would be great. Be warned though, these are heavy blankets with dog hair. Pet owners know what that means. ;)

Another option would be laundromat gift cards, so that our staff and volunteers can make dryer runs as time allows. Either form of assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. This particular appliance is one that we use daily, and it's loss is already being felt.

We'd like to take a moment to recognize our community. Last month's Double Dog Dare challenge was amazing! Our $40,000 goal was met, thanks to so many of you stepping up to make it happen.

While our large donors were responsible for the bulk of that, it was inspiring to see hundreds of new, smaller donor contributions. That tells me that the community at large (even those of us with less to give) recognize the mission and challenges the HCHS faces every day. And they chose to give, no matter the dollar amount.

Thank you all so much for believing in this organization, and for supporting the animals of Huron County.

Here is an update of our currently available dogs. See bio in each individual picture and please read them carefully. These dogs all have special needs and requirements. They have little quirks (like all of us), and they need patience and love. Their good qualities do outweigh those quirks though, and they just need the right match to ensure a successful future (for both the dogs and their potential adopters). ❤️

We believe the right person/family is out there for each and every one of these dogs. They've all been with us for a long time, and we love them as if they were our own. 🥰 But our mission is to create success stories. They're all wonderful and very loved, but a shelter is never gonna be (and never should be) a home.

We have many others, but they came to us pretty feral and we work with them daily. It will be a long road ahead before they're available. In the meantime, they are VERY loved (and they love us right back). However, they are terrified of strangers and don't even feel safe entering our hallway or leaving the building. We have our hands full, but we're dedicated to their needs. THIS is why we're here - every day, giving it our all. These dogs all deserve the best; and we will continue to give it to them.

We've put together our annual report for 2025, and wanted to share a condensed version with our Facebook followers.

The year included many challenges and successes that won't show up in a spreadsheet. But if you follow this page, you've seen those happen in real time. These are the numbers. A quick glimpse into what 2025 looked like at the shelter.

Thanks to everyone who supported this organization throughout the year. From the fundraising campaigns to events, donations to volunteer hours... THIS is why we do what we do! And it couldn't happen without each and every one of you.

Nemo's surgery was a little rough today. His life long issues made things a little unpredictable and although he is doing ok, he is still struggling more than we hoped for. Please send him some love. He is resting with one of our staff members for a few days ❤️ We will update his progress as it comes. He will be looking for his forever home soon!!!
