🐾 The secret to better training? Keep it short. 🐾
You don’t need an hour-long block in your day to train your dog.
In fact, 5–15 minutes a couple of times a day is perfect for most training sessions — especially when you’re teaching something new or reinforcing skills they already know.
Your dog is learning all throughout the day, but shorter sessions keep things clear, fun, and productive.
If you notice your dog starting to “check out” before your time is up, that’s okay! End on something they know well, celebrate the win, and try again later.
Pushing when your dog is mentally done doesn’t speed up progress — it creates more frustration for both of you.
Lasting change comes from consistent, repeated practice over time. Behavior challenges aren’t solved in a single day. You’re teaching your dog new habits, new coping skills, and better choices, one session at a time.
Enjoy the process. Breathe.
Your dog doesn’t need to be trained all day long — they also need to learn how to settle, relax, and just be. Too much exercise or overdoing it can create a dog that can’t turn off. Too little, and you get a dog whose energy builds with no outlet. The magic is in finding that balance.
Yesterday, I had a moment with June that reminded me of this. She showed me exactly what she was struggling with — and instead of trying to “fix it all” in one go, I took it as a learning moment for both of us. Now we have a better game plan to meet her where she is and move forward from there.
Training is a journey, not a race. 🐕💛
