WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

You’re driving home after a long day.
You’re tired. Your family is waiting for you.
Then, at a stop sign, you notice something out of the corner of your eye…
A small pet carrier sitting on the side of the road.
Cars behind you honk, so you keep driving.
But the thought won’t leave your mind.
What if something was inside?
Thankfully, one incredible woman — a former adopter of ours — went back. ❤️
She and her son walked all the way back to the exact spot where she had seen the carrier.
As they got closer, they heard it.
A tiny meow.
Inside, abandoned in the scorching heat, was a beautiful cat.
Taped to her carrier was a handwritten note:
“Please look after me.”
There were also a black beaded cross attached.
No food.
No water.
No idea how long she had been sitting there terrified and alone.
The moment Mittens got to safety, she drank water desperately…
And then she purred.
She stretched out for pets.
She trusted.
Despite everything that happened to her, Mittens is unbelievably loving, gentle, affectionate, and sweet. She truly is a beautiful soul.
And as if she wasn’t special enough already… Mittens has a little white heart-shaped patch of fur on her belly. 🤍 A tiny reminder that even after heartbreak, her heart is still full of love.
There were so many safer ways this could have been handled, and the SPCA has been contacted regarding this heartbreaking abandonment.
But somehow, Mittens found her way into the path of kindness.
Now we need your help to find her the forever home she deserves.
We want the rest of Mittens’ life (she is only 4 years old) to be filled with soft beds, sunny windows, love, safety, and people who will never leave her behind again.
Because despite everything, Mittens holds no grudges.
She is simply spectacular. ✨
Please share her story. Let’s help this little angel get the happy ending she deserves. ❤️

💔 THEY WAITED FOR THEIR DAD TO COME HOME… BUT HE NEVER DID 💔
Joanie and Richie lost everything the day their owner passed away.
For years, they lived with a kind man who loved them deeply. Then suddenly, after he died, they were put outside and never allowed back into the only home they had ever known.
But they didn’t understand.
They stayed there waiting.
Day after day.
Hoping their dad would come back for them.
When the house was finally scheduled for demolition, these two terrified souls STILL refused to leave the property. They had nowhere else to go… and no one else to love.
That’s when NCRA stepped in.
We brought them into rescue and placed them into a loving foster home where they slowly began learning how to trust again. They healed so beautifully that we thought they were finally ready for adoption habitats.
But once there, both Joanie and Richie suffered severe panic attacks.
They were retraumatized by losing the safety they had finally found.
So back to foster they went… and that’s where they’ve stayed ever since.
And because they are in foster instead of a public adoption space, almost nobody sees them.
Almost nobody knows they exist.
But we are telling you right now:
THEY ARE TWO OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SOULS WE HAVE EVER RESCUED.
Joanie is the ultimate lap cat — calm, fluffy, gentle, and overflowing with love. Richie is shy at first, but once he trusts you, he becomes your shadow and best friend forever. They adore other cats and have even helped foster and comfort orphaned kittens. They are peaceful, affectionate, soulful cats who simply need a quiet forever home together.
After everything they’ve lost…
after waiting for someone who never came back…
they deserve ONE person who will never abandon them again.
PLEASE HELP THEM GET SEEN.

Meet Maurice Jr.
If you’ve been searching for a sweet, handsome big boy, your search is over.

Estimated to be around 3 years old, Maurice Jr. wandered onto a kind couple’s porch in East Northport during a terrible storm, looking for food and shelter. Unable to keep him, they reached out to us for help — and we’re so glad they did.

Maurice is everything you could want in a cat and more. Gentle, loving, and incredibly charming, he’s ready to find the forever home he deserves.

✨ Neutered
✨ Fully vaccinated
✨ Microchipped
✨ FELV/FIV negative
✨ Ready for adoption

You can meet this amazing boy at Petco in Commack — and trust us, the photos don’t even come close to showing how wonderful he truly is.

Interested in adopting Maurice Jr.?
Please fill out an adoption application on our website, and we’d be happy to arrange a meet & greet.

UPDATE ❤️ Happy Tails Alert!!

We are beyond happy to share that all 3 cats have officially gone to their forever home — together. 🥹

A wonderful former adopter saw their story and immediately stepped forward to keep this bonded trio together, and because they were already approved through our rescue, the adoption was able to happen very quickly.

While surrender situations can bring up many emotions and opinions, we do want to say this: these cats were deeply loved, well cared for, fully vetted, and their owner worked very hard to make sure they would remain safe and together rather than abandoned or separated.

And because of that… they now have their happy ending. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who shared, commented, and helped get them seen. Rescue is never black and white, but keeping cats safe will always be the goal.

We can’t wait to share updated photos once these 3 have had time to settle into their new forever home together ❤️💙🩵

Update- adopted!! See post above!!!

A FAMILY ABOUT TO LOSE EVERYTHING… EXCEPT EACH OTHER 💔
Meet Dahlia, Cosmo & Smokey — three beautiful siblings who have spent every single day of their 4 years together.
Together since birth. Together through every nap, every cuddle, every meal, every quiet moment curled up beside the person who rescued them as tiny kittens from outside near a busy road. They grew up safe, loved, and never knowing what it felt like to be alone.
Until now.
Because of severe allergies in the household, their devastated owner must surrender the cats he loves like family. And now these three confused hearts sit at Petco Commack, wondering where their home — and their person — went.💔
Dahlia purrs the moment you cradle her like a baby. Smokey melts completely into your arms for belly rubs. Sweet Cosmo pushes his way through his siblings just to be closer to the people he loves and to get brushed.
They don’t care about fancy things. They just want love, soft places to sleep, sunny windows… and each other.
We know asking someone to open their home to three adult cats is a huge ask. But after losing the only life they’ve ever known, we are begging for one miracle — that they do not lose each other too.
Please share their story. Someone out there has the heart big enough for all three.🙏
They are 4 years old, spayed and neutered, fully vaccinated, litter box trained, micro-chipped, and FELV/FIV negative.
Come meet them at Petco Commack or message us for more info, or fill out an app at www.northportcatrescue.org

One year 💔
That’s how long these babies have been waiting for someone to finally choose them.
An entire year of watching other kittens get adopted while they stay behind wondering why nobody ever picks them.

To help them find homes, we are waiving the adoption fee for ONE kitten in each bonded pair. You can adopt two best friends for the fee of one — only for these four because it has become that urgent.

Every day at Petco Commack, families walk in excited to adopt. Tiny kittens go home immediately. And these four just sit there watching everyone else leave.
And the heartbreaking part? They are SO easy to love.
Remy and Bastian were abandoned outside and left on a curb like they didn’t matter. Another mama cat protected them until rescue came. Since then, they’ve watched everyone else get adopted — even their own sibling — while they stayed behind.
Still, they greet every person with hopeful eyes, still believing someone will finally take them home together.
Then there’s Lena and Phantom.
Phantom had to have all of his teeth removed after living in pain, but he is doing AMAZING now and it will not affect his future quality of life at all. Through everything, Lena never left his side. She comforted him, protected him, and stayed curled beside him every step of the way. She is his entire world.
These kittens have spent their whole first year of life growing up in cages instead of a home.
Their whole babyhood has passed by inside a cage.
No couch.
No bed.
No family.
Just waiting.
And we are terrified they are becoming invisible.
They are affectionate, playful, gentle kittens who adore people and other cats. They have done absolutely nothing wrong except grow up while nobody noticed them.
So we are begging — please give them a chance.

Please don’t let them spend another birthday in rescue.
Remy & Bastian and Lena & Phantom are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, litter box trained, and FELV/FIV negative.
They are waiting at Petco Commack.

A huge thank you to Thomas Thieke for putting together an incredible fundraiser for us. We truly cannot thank you enough for your kindness, hard work, and support. Your entire family has been absolutely amazing — from volunteering with us, to fundraising for us, and of course adopting one very sassy little girl who found the perfect forever home with your family. ❤️

Congratulations on graduating high school, Thomas, and best of luck as you begin your college journey. We know you are going to soar and do incredible things! Please don’t forget to come back and visit us.

We also want to give another huge thank you to the YDA Community Impact Team for their wonderful donations and support. What an amazing organization! YDA is a nonprofit youth agency in Northport Village dedicated to empowering young people and making a difference in the community. Special thanks to Coach Brielle for helping put everything together.

Nothing makes us happier than seeing the younger generation learn how important it is to show kindness to all living things. Charity work and compassion are instrumental in raising empathetic, caring adults, and that gives us so much hope for the future.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts — and from all of our kitties’ hearts as well. ❤️
P.S. if you look very closely you can see one of our Kittens at Petco Commack under the cart checking out all the loot!! 😆❤️

4 kittens. 1 year. Still waiting…💔

They don’t know why no one chooses them.
Every day, the cages open. New kittens come in… and go home.
Families point, smile, fall in love.
And these four just sit there… watching.

Remy and Bastian once had a home.
Until the day they were thrown out like they didn’t matter.
Left on the curb.
A mama cat—who wasn’t even theirs—protected them until help came.
One by one… everyone else was chosen.
The mama.
Her babies.
Even their brother.
Remy and Bastian stayed behind.
A year old now…
and they have never known what it feels like to be chosen.
They are so full of love—silly, sweet boys who adore people and other cats…
still waiting. They are bonded and must be adopted together .

Phantom and Lena have only ever had each other- and are bonded and must be adopted together…

Phantom was in pain. Quietly suffering.
He needed surgery. Teeth removed.
Through it all… Lena never left him.
Not once.
She stayed curled beside him, keeping him safe.
Now he’s learning joy again—slowly, gently—because she showed him he could.
They are loving, gentle, and so deserving.
They adore people. They love other cats. They just need a chance.

Four kittens.
All love.
All resilience.
All still waiting.
No applications.
No one asking for them.
Just being overlooked.
While everyone else goes home…
they are growing up in a cage.
Please don’t let that be their whole story.
Share them. Tell someone they are at Petco Commack.
Because somewhere… their person is out there.
They just haven’t found them yet.🙏💕
