Island Fish and Scale

Last Friday night at Island Fish & Scale, we welcomed LIRA members for our November monthly meeting with Taras Pleskun of TopShelf Aquatics. The social hour kicked off an hour before the meeting, filling the shop with laughter, reef talk, and new connections, setting the perfect tone for Taras’ inspiring presentation, “Seeking Synergy Between the Reef Aquarium & Food Aquaculture Industries.”

In his talk, Taras reminded us how science, passion, and industry can come together to build a smarter, stronger, and kinder future for all who love aquatic life. 🌿🐠 The conversations he sparked flowed well into the night, proof that our reefing community is full of curiosity, care, and camaraderie.

Day 1 at Aquashella was one for the books!

For us, this isn’t just about showcasing fish & coral from our collection, it’s about sparking wonder, sharing knowledge and fostering a community that truly cares for these incredible animals.

This kind of inspiration is made possible by how far technology and equipment in the hobby has come. From incredible specialty builds like the Kreisel 10 Jellyfish Aquarium and innovations from , Which takes the "scary" out of your first endeavor in the hobby. The tools we now have make it possible to share our experiences with our hobby adjacent freshwater enthusiasts looking to take the leap into Salt!

Industry partners and enable us to further the mission of responsible and sustainable reefing through their aquacultured species. 🐠💡

And from a business perspective, we’re grateful for the ethical supply chain & offer, making it possible to bring these products to our shows and stores. Partnerships like these help us continue to grow and share the hobby we love.

Our very first Aquashella has been an absolute joy and we can’t wait to be back when they visit the East Coast again! 🙌
