For anyone who knows me, you know that I am not one to post anything on social media but today is a special day. 19 years ago today Dr Kristine Preiser started her journey here at this very animal hospital that bears her name and that of her family legacy. And 19 just happens to be Dr Preiser's favorite number!
Not many of you know how much her father had looked forward to her joining the team and working beside him (although he quickly decided he had taught her everything he knows and was happy to retire!). Her father had a calendar in the office where he would mark off every rotation she was in during her final year of Vet School weeks in advance, counting down the days until she graduated. He was so proud of her for following in his footsteps (although he sometimes discouraged her because he knows the life of a veterinarian means long hours and missed family dinners at times).
Although we are celebrating her 19th Anniversary today, her journey started long before that. For those of you who have been clients for years, some of you even for generations, you know her journey actually started when she was just a young child. She followed her father into the exam rooms and "helped" him with his appointments. I'm convinced her love of veterinary medicine was born in those moments.
Over the last 19 years I have had the great pleasure and fortune to see her grow into her own as a doctor, a surgeon, a medical director (for both the hospital and 2 shelters), and as a leader for our team. She survived, even thrived, during the days when we scheduled everything on a walk-in basis. She has seen Doctors and Techs come and go over the years. She navigated the challenges of running a hospital and helping our patients during a pandemic. She has had a baby and and learned to juggle being a "mum-mum" (as Charlotte calls her) all while still giving 100% to her clients and patients. It's hard to believe Charlotte is turning 7 in just a few weeks! And last year she finally saw a full hospital renovation that her father and her started planning over a decade ago come to fruition.
I am so lucky to be able to work alongside my best friend. I hope I get to see you count down the days until Charlotte graduates from Vet School and comes back to work by your side just like your father did. Even after all these years, there is no one that I would rather work with or for, even on the hard days. Thank you for everything you do. Happy 19th Annivtodayersary, Dr Preiser! Here's to 19 more! Love, Jaimie
