While I have heard of females laying eggs without a pre lay shed. I have yet to see it with my 26 years + of hognose breeding. Pre lay sheds I love to use as a gauge to predict when she will be laying. So I can be prepared and check when the time is close. 7 - 13 days after a pre lay shed is the most common range for a female western hog to lay. I have had females lay 3 - 4 days after a pre lay shed. One time a female triple clutched and on her 3rd clutch her pre lay shed was one day prior to her laying ( crazy anomaly). I had one female lay 34 days after a pre lay shed. Which was baffling as I expected them to be smothered from being retained. She had large developed eggs going into pre lay shed, so it wasn't a case of mistaking her time frame of being gravid.

Big lock! ( snake copulation ) with this Antarctic male and a big red female who I gave the year of last season. Was paired with a color blast male one week ago. So we will see if we ger a dual sired clutch here

Small hognose clutch with 4 dummy, 5 good. Dummy eggs have a similar appearance to a good egg when first laid. They do not visibly look like a "slug" ( small unfertilzed egg) . Dummys can maintain a healthy appearance full term sometimes as well. But there is nothing inside living. The term Dummy eggs with hognose is something I adopted from the gecko community when I was much younger. To describe the somewhat unusual occurrence that happens with these infertile eggs that contain nothing or a failed embryo. As it's more common in plains hognose snakes than other colubrids from what I have observed being reported by other breeders.

My two favorite incomplete dominant traits. Antarctic Vs. Arctic. Antarctic and arctic are allelic with one another. Meaning they're on the same loci ( same exact position on a chromosome where the allele code for arctic and Antarctic reside ).

Lots of jokes, rage bait, and clowing during the lives too. Generally 10 - 20 close friends also join where there is some inside jokes and rough housing between us occurs. Be warned language can get crazy. While I uphold professionalism and seriousness in my animals, care, genetics, love for animals, and customer support. I am a regular person that likes to joke around with friends I made here in the community.
