Meet Lucy! Lucy’s owners inherited her from a family member who was an agoraphobe and never socialized her. She had severe anxiety and was so scared she had aggression issues with everyone she didn’t know well. Since I’ve been working with Lucy and collaborating with her owners on how to train her anxiety she has gone from needing anxiety meds every day to as needed and hasn’t needed her anxiety meds administered the last few times I have worked with her. Lucy interacting with my daughter used to be out of the question. I have been slowly introducing Lucy to my daughter and now we are at the point where my daughter can come with me to their drop-in visits and interact with Lucy with no problems! Behavior modification training is such a crucial tool for dogs! Because of the training we’ve been doing with Lucy she is a completely different dog than she was a year ago. Lucy would not have come this far if it wasn’t for her owners’ willingness to work with her to give her a higher quality of life. Shout out to all the dog parents who have patiently worked with their anxious dogs ♥️

Meet Comet and Maggie, my two pets! Comet is a velveteen lop rabbit and Maggie is a husky collie mix. I got both of them from their previous owners but their stories are very different.

Comet came from a loving home but once the husband got a job as a truck driver his wife made him downsize their rabbits so it was more manageable when he was out of town. He was very well cared for, got to play with other rabbits during free roam time and was very loved. I still send them updates on him from time to time.

Maggie is a rehab dog. Her previous owners did not take good care of her because they didn’t do any research on her breeds before getting her. They were very overwhelmed by her energy and because of her lack of enrichment and care she had developed pretty severe anxiety. She had crate anxiety and aggression, separation anxiety and general anxiety. With lots of hard work with training her and providing the right types and amount of enrichment she doesn’t have crate anxiety or aggression anymore and her separation and general anxiety are much better.

There is no shame in rehoming a pet. Part of caring for pets is recognizing when you don’t have the time, money or knowledge to properly care for them and either changing your life to fit their needs or finding them someone who can meet their needs. Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed with pets right now. Do your part and do research before getting any pet to make sure you’re able to provide them what they need. Things happen and circumstances change but one thing you can control is educating yourself and recognizing if the pet you want to get will be the right fit for you based on their care needs.

Now that May is almost over I wanted to share some pictures of the animals I have worked with and I also threw in a picture with my bunny! Whether I’m caring for dogs, cats or small animals I always treat the animals I work with like they’re my own. Most of my clients are repeat clients and I enjoy getting to bond with their pets and become a small part of their family. I always strive to give good quality care and enrichment. From feeding to play time they will be loved and cared for ♥️
