5 years ago I paid $250 for our fourth cat from an amazing rescue.
They had 8 rooms of cats! I was surprised by the price but that rescue inspired me. She was caring for so many cats… and most would probably be with her forever.
Here I find myself trying to find homes for the “desired” fluffy and Siamese kittens by charging that same price.

The cute kittens are 200
The hard to adopt are $100-150

I reduce the adult cats adoptions to $50-100 because let’s face it I don’t have 8 rooms to hold them all. If they don’t get adopted I don’t take more in!

Yet here I am feeling like it’s necessary to explain why.

My price for spay: 115 microchip 15 vaccines 15 each (x3) felv/fiv testing $25 (usually on momma or one kitten in the litter- unless it’s a single kitty)
Deworming and flea treatments 20

Surprise vet bills *in the hundreds every time*

Litter, wet food, and dry food a couple hundred at least every month.

Amazon spending below was due to having sick kitties and using disposable everything! As well as syringes, fluids, needles,and gallons and gallons of rescue disinfectant. I literally threw away recently purchased cat beds and trees to ensure the virus was gone. It almost gave me a mental break down but I survived and so did 90% of the kitties. 🙏❤️

Looking for a foster to adopt home for this little guy. He will need some time in a new home tk decompress but once he feels safe he is a whole sweetheart.

3 boys. John, Jacob and Jingleheimer.
Momma is a lynx point Siamese and yet they look like some sort of bengal babies!

Brought them home from the fosters house to take them to their vet appointments tomorrow. That means they will officially be ready to go home this week!

I think they’re gorgeous colored kitties but they have yet to have any interested adopters. Hoping their new photos will bring some love to them.

They are still small guys. A little under 3 lbs. they’re curious and sweet. They love their momma ❤️

Ugh it’s sadly true.
Not that people don’t want to adopt but small rescues also pay top dollar for vet care.
We created the rescue knowing there would be losses financially and it would be worth it.
As we take in more and more animals we need more veterinary care and eventually the future of running a rescue becomes unstable.

I’ll be the first to say I never knew how hard it was to run a rescue. I never knew how sick stray cats 99% of the time are. I realize now even the dogs who look like an easy rescue won’t be!

My husband is in the medical field and I understand the loans and the sacrifices that the medical field takes on. I also realize there are very few resources for the middle class. Owning a pet is like owning a child. One ER visit will send you into debt by the thousands. I empathize on all levels.

Hopefully we will turn a corner on animal care so we can see some relief in unvaccinated animals having multiple litters and dying on the streets. For now it falls on the community that scrambles to do what they can for a problem most of us didn’t contribute to.

I guess what I’m saying is running the rescue is worth the losses. Especially learning, connecting, and building friendships to grow.
BUT is spending 10-20k on rescuing animals crazy? Instead of saving it in the bank to pass down to kids or going on trips to relax?
I’m sure I’ll always feel like it’s well worth saving a life. Still unsure on the longevity for small rescues like ours. ❤️🙏🥹

From Scuffy to Dapper 🥰
This little guy was supposed to go to a foster but it didn’t work out as planned. He’s all cleaned up and flea treated but he’s in a temporary foster hold until he can find someone with a quiet home to foster or foster to adopt.

We think he would do best in a quiet home.
He did well with the dog and chickens at the other home but with too new environments he was afraid. He is happy to have a familiar face but it’s very temporary. So if anyone knows of someone looking for a new addition please reach out so we can keep him safe and out of the shelter.

I just read the news that our rescue Ruby’s momma Dina passed recently . When I met her she was very excited to have a companion dog as she explained she was a widow. She expressed how excited she was to show her son and grandkids her new dog. She sent me updated photos of her pride and joy grandkids and Ruby squeezed right in. In the short time I knew her I could tell what a wonderful and loving mother and grandma she was. Although I’m unsure of what happened I feel like I lost a dear person as well. The homes the rescues go to really mean a lot to me. Not only do I choose but they choose to continue loving the animals I put so much time and love into. That makes them special to me. I know she will be missed.

I do plan to make sure Ruby is cared for and offer to take her back in if needed. ❤️

Who says you can’t adopt males together?!

Two different litters. 6 month age gap (approx) loving each other. ❤️
Thankful for my last adopters coming back to adopt from me again. They are the best!

When you take in 3 adorable bottle babies because… they’ll be easy to find home for…. And you have the best partner Faith Roberts…. then find out they all have ringworm 😅😣🙏😩
Thankful for the help I’ve had lately. She is a SAINT!!
Couldn’t help but post the cutest photo- and yes my son took a good bath and washed up after this 🤣

These little ones will be ready for adoption soon as well.
Our fosters are adopting the little black and white one (They named him Felix).
They will be fixed and ready for new homes next month. ❤️
