In Memory of Makarra
10/6/97 to 8/2/26
I met Makarra when she was three years old and I was around ten. She was stalled in a box stall at Rainbow Ranch in Norco. I peaked over the stall and it was love at first sight. She wasn’t really “for sale” so they put a very high price tag on her. My mom and grandparents both said absolutely not but I begged and begged and one day I went to my grandparents barn and there she was. She will always be the prettiest mini I’ve ever seen. Makarra was perfection, she had one blue and one brown eye, lighting/lacing markings down her back and she looked like a completely different horse on each side. She was a jet black, frame overo and exactly 34” on the dot, making us sweat every show she had to be measured in at. Makarra was a great driving horse (trained by the late John Jackson). She didn’t always love being driven in the shows and would try and break in front of the judge whenever she felt like it, just to prove that she could. She was sweet and spicy and only allowed cuddles on her terms. She is the first of my original trio to pass. I’ve known her longer then I’ve known most people. You’re not supposed to have favorites but she was mine and there won’t ever be another like her. Rest in peace my wild thing. I hope you’re up there with Grandma and we will meet again one day.
