‘Twas the night before Christmas in July 🎄
and the adoptions were slow
except for one guy
off to his new home 🏡

Pepperoncini was ready
As he bid adieu
to all the friends he made
in our diverse shelter crew.

There was sweet Trouble the Min Pin
a senior boy now alone
with so many cats, he hoped this was the chance
for his best doggie qualities to be shown!

Tender, loving, snuggly, and loyal
he has it all,
that’s why we can’t comprehend
how there’s been not a call (or email, dm, etc.- you get the picture!)

There’s also Hank, Acorn, and Marcus
all the orange boys galore!
You say that shade’s not your thing?
We’ve got so much more!

Grey tabbies with patterns mackerel and classic
coats of all grey, white, and black,
calicos, tuxedos, torties with ‘tude,
a seal point mix- a true variety pack

There’s cats of all ages,
their needs all diverse,
spaces needed for rest,
before things get worse 💔

Like our special Little Girl,
who’s so ready for the chance
to show the love she has to give
for the one willing to give more than a glance

There’s bonded pairs to be found
nearly everywhere you look,
Or singles like Lenny 🐇and Dusty,
whose love is often mistook.

There’s all these babies and more-
just never enough time
to fit all their specialness
into one rhyme.

You’ll have to come see for yourself,
we hope you visit and stay,
maybe find a new best friend
on this weird ‘holiday’.

💔 How it feels when we want it to be a Feel Good Friday, but we are in the thick of the ‘Summer Slump’ with no adoptions for June, very few wishlist donations, and are drowning in cats and intake requests- featuring our collection of treasures rescued from weekly drain checks. 💔

While it might look like your run-of-the-mill, typical 👅Tongue Out Tuesday👅 post with an adorable adoptable baby - it is actually a study in the grand philosophical causality dilemma - with an adorable, adoptable baby posing the question of what came first:

🐶 a shy shelter puppy baby who has finally gained enough confidence to start barking at/even giving a little chase to the cats here?

🐶or a little yappy, cat corraller who is finally starting to feel like himself again after a month of learning to find his place at the shelter?

Once found as a stray making his way on the streets, it’s anyone’s guess what his past held and where his feline loyalties lie-so you’ll just have to come and meet him and give us your observations- because we’re still trying to figure out this guy!

What we do know, however, is that Pepperoncini (Pepper) 🌶️:

✅ loves humans (seemingly of all ages, but can be a bit in your face with his affection which can be overwhelming for younger kids!)
✅ is a lap dog/excellent snuggler
✅ runs the gamut of v chill and unbridled energy on any given day
✅ loves the fellow canines he meets, though most we’ve encountered are pretty close to his size
✅ seems to like most cats, but again, our query remains
✅ is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, and Heartworm tested
✅ is likely ~1-2ish years old
✅ is predominantly a Chihuahua/Wirehaired Terrier mix! 😈
✅has amazing jumping abilities + circus dog 🎪🐩 potential
✅listens prettyyyyyy wellll
✅is making great strides in the housebreaking department and has come a longggg way- but it is still something he’s working on

While we may never know the truth of his cat quandary 🔎, we know that Pepper’s people are out there and they are probably willing to take on any unknown when getting to see that face every day 🥺🥺🥺.

As a gentleman of 11 years, he might not be able to see that well anymore- but who needs 20/20 vision when the future ahead is so bright?! ☀️😎

For 16.8 lb Min Pin, Trouble, life as of late, has been pretty glum 💔. His former owner battled Alzheimer’s, and when their own health began to rapidly deteriorate making it impossible to care for themselves let alone sweet Trouble, Trouble found himself as the only dog among the 40+ cats we have here currently.

As a dog who has spent the entirety of his life in homes as an only-pet, the culture shock was real 🐈🐈‍⬛- but after a few days of cursory yaps, some little trembles here and there, and a few yowly nights 🥺, Trouble began to meld right into our little chaotic mix 🐈🐈‍⬛🐕🐾- and things have only gotten smoother for Trouble (literally and figuratively)!

After a long overdue trip to the vet, Trouble got some answers for the fur loss and irritated skin along his back (Color Dilution Alopecia-very common in dogs with blue coats!), and started receiving medicated baths 🛀 which he loves!

When another dog joined our crowd, Trouble seemed to blossom 🌸, and we’ve learned now that he can get along with most anyone-human (maybe not of young unpredictable variety), cat, and dog alike- so long as they allow him a little time to warm up!

In his time with us, we’ve also learned that, in true typical Min Pin fashion, he loves to burrow and be as snug as possible 🧣- when basking in the sun is not an option, a blanket den is needed. He also loves food and treats, and often times eats it all too fast - a paced feeder would be ideal for him! Trouble loves walks, being outside, and does really well in car rides-when you get his leash and harness out- just try to deny the preciousness of his dainty little paws as he steps into it 😭😭😭😭.

All things considered, Trouble is doing pretty ok for his age! He has the expected lumps and bumps- nothing the vet was too concerned about, the cursed senior dental disease 🦷, and like we mentioned, the not-the-best-eyesight 🧿. Trouble also had a mystery ‘vestibular event’ last week (leaning heavily to one side, unable to steady himself and looking a bit dazed) that was a scary for the minute that it lasted, but has had nothing related before or since, and had no neurological symptoms afterwards. He’s also had two recent bloodwork panels that have come back pretty impeccable 👌!

Above all else, we’ve learned in his time with us, that Trouble is anything but 😈! A complete misnomer for this laidback senior who deserves nothing but the best and brightest future ahead ☀️☀️☀️!

What might look like a Feel Good Friday moment, is actually our latest heartbreaking installment of Strays of Our Lives 💔.

Little Lenny has all but given up on winning Grey BB back, and has sought refuge in the office (along with some other lonely hearts who need reassurance of the human variety 👋) and the sage counsel of his ancestors featured prominently on his blanket 🦁.

Meanwhile, young Cornelius along with all of his siblings, his brothers Corncob and Cobbler recently returned to us 💔, because all the sudden a new husband was allergic to them, have taken over the side door/Grey BB viewing/interaction area.

While it’s hard to argue the preciousness of the siblings reunited, it breaks our hearts knowing how this has come be and how much harder it will be to once again adopt out this bonded pair, who are as tender as ever, but now a bit older and just the slightest more reserved when encountering new people 💔💔💔.

We’ve had a lot going on here:

and really everything in between 🤙.

But right now the thing we’re talking about is how we will be at Bellevue’s First Friday festivities this upcoming Friday, June 5th from 6p-9p!
