Anyone else’s dog do this? 🐶
Meet Minnie—our sweet girl with a very unique comfort habit: blanket sucking. She’ll curl up, gently nurse on a soft blanket, and drift right off to sleep. It’s her way of finding peace in the world.
We adopted Minnie from an abusive home. While we do know some of the terrible things she endured, we also know this habit helps her feel safe and secure. It’s part of her healing process, and honestly, it’s become part of what makes her her.
Is it normal?
Yes—for many dogs, especially those who’ve been through trauma or were weaned too early, blanket sucking is a common self-soothing behavior.
When to be concerned:
🟡 If they start ingesting the fabric
🟡 If it gets in the way of eating, playing, or bonding
🟡 If it’s tied to signs of anxiety or distress
Otherwise? Let them have their comfort. Minnie sure does.
Does your dog have any unique self-soothing habits too? I'd love to hear them.
