Urgent adopter needed for 5-month-old Oakley! ❤️‍🩹

Oakley was dumped. He is only 5 months old, just a puppy who should be playing, learning, and growing up with a family. Instead, he urgently needs someone to give him a loving, permanent home.

Look at those enormous ears and that little face. This boy has his whole life ahead of him. He needs an adopter who will give him the time, patience, and care a young puppy deserves, and a home where he can grow up feeling safe and loved.

Look who got adopted recently, our Zuzu! We love seeing her enjoying life with a family of her own.

Zuzu was surrendered to the shelter in August 2024 as a stray. She was only about a year old, a playful, affectionate girl who loved to snuggle and had so much life ahead of her. But she was deteriorating in the shelter and was placed on the euthanasia list. In September 2024, an amazing foster stepped up and saved her from being euthanized.❤️

Long before her adoptive family found her, Zuzu needed someone to give her a safe place to go. Her foster opened their home when her life depended on it. That gave her time to leave the stress of the shelter behind, settle into a home, and wait for the family who would eventually adopt her. She got to have a future because someone was willing to care for her in the meantime.

And that commitment deserves so much appreciation. Fostering means making room in your daily life for a dog who needs you. It means walks, meals, patience, learning their habits, and giving them time to feel comfortable. It also helps us get to know a dog in a home, so we can tell potential adopters more about who they are and what they need. All of that care matters long before an adoption announcement is ever posted.

AmsterDog is a foster-based rescue. We don’t have a facility where dogs can stay, so being able to help a dog depends on someone offering them a place in their home. Zuzu’s foster made it possible for us to get her out of the shelter alive. This is what we mean when we say fostering truly saves lives.

Kardi is 7 years old, 73 lbs., and deserves to be somebody’s precious girl. Someone’s car-ride companion. Someone’s reason to stop for a pup cup. Someone’s family.🥺

Harlem Leonardo is adopted! 🎉

Back in January 2024, a confused one year old dog was found tied to a pole in the bitter cold. Leonardo 191639 was incredibly social at the shelter but quickly deteriorated, refusing to return back to his kennel and he found himself needing emergency placement. Thankfully, a wonderful foster home stepped up in time for young Leonardo, and they lovingly renamed him Harlem. He then patiently waited for almost 2 years, but we are so happy to announce that the magic has officially happened for Harlem and he is adopted! 🎉

Thank you so much to his amazing foster home for preparing him for this incredibly important achievement and thank you to his new family for opening their heart & home to dear Harlem! ❤️

Cash has been adopted! ❤️ After months of uncertainty, multiple placements falling through, and several pleas for someone to give this little guy a chance, we finally get to share the news we’ve been hoping for.

Cash now has a fur brother to share the couch with and a beautiful, big yard to run around in! And judging by these pictures, he’s making himself right at home. A fluffy bed full of stuffed toys, a little blue hoodie, and a spot on the human bed, too.

Thank you to his new mom for welcoming Cash and giving him the love and stability he needed. And thank you to everyone who shared his posts and kept rooting for him. We know many of you worried about this sweet boy right along with us. Seeing him home, with a brother and room to play, is such a relief. Happy life, Cash! 🐾

Spike is Safe with AmsterDog!! ❤️🎉

Just days ago, Spike was at risk of euthanasia in the overcrowded crowded city shelter. A young dog who didnt understand why he lost his home, so grateful for any affection, trying so hard to be brave...and now just this simple video of Spike getting to be a normal dog in his new home is so incredibly meaningful. He is alive. He is safe. And he has the rest of his life to look forward to!

Thank you so much to his new mom and family for opening their hearts & home to a dog in need. We are so grateful to be able to rescue Spike and see him settling in, at home 🏡 ❤️

For National Pit Bull Awareness Day today, we’re shining a little extra light on Remy, who is available for adoption.

This handsome boy is about 50 lbs., house-trained, and affectionate. One of his sweetest habits is offering his paw to say hello. 🐾

Remy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. He’s currently in Fairfield, CT, waiting for a family of his own.

Adoption Update: Koda 🧡

Koda was found as a stray and surrendered to the shelter in March 2024 where he was known as Newark 195438. When he landed on the euthanasia list there, an AmsterDog foster stepped up to give him a safe place to stay. His dad, Alex, adopted him in December 2025 and made him part of his family.

Alex recently sent us a wonderful update. With time, patience, consistency, and lots of love, Koda’s making great progress. On walks, he now wants to say hello to people and dogs ♥️

He’s getting used to cats, too, and horse-drawn carriages get him very excited. At home, he’s loves being cozy as we can see from his pics. 🥹

Thank you to Koda’s foster for giving him a chance when he needed one, and to Alex for adopting him and sticking by his side. We’re so glad Koda has a home where he can keep growing at his own pace. 🐾
