KittyKind KittyKind is a 501(c)(3), no-kill, all-volunteer cat rescue and adoption group located in New York City.

KittyKind is a no-kill cat rescue group that rescues, cares for, and finds loving homes for all ages and types of cats. We pride ourselves on our commitment to caring for and finding the best adoptive homes for those cats that are deemed "special needs," be it because of illness, injury, disability, or age. We take responsibility for each and every life we save and if a cat or kitten is not adopted, they have a home with us for life.

Buttercup is a gentle two and a half year old male cat who was rescued from an overcrowded colony during trap neuter return (TNR). He was born without a paw on his hind leg, but that does not prevent him from walking, running, and jumping. Although he may avoid being picked up at first, he relaxes in your arms and likes being held. He is growing more confident each day. He gets along with other cats and enjoys churus and dental treats for cats (e.g., greenies, whimzees) and scratch boards. You can clip his nails too. He has adjusted to life indoors. He is now ready for the next step to find a forever home and family where he can get more attention and continue to socialize with his humans. Buttercup is FIV and FeLV negative, neutered, and up to date on shots. Email [email protected] to apply!

These two young men from New Jersey are ready to move into their forever homes! Owen (black and white) and Oliver (black with a splash of white) were rescued together and had already left their mom. They are very friendly and lovable. Oliver is high energy and playful while Owen is calmer and more of a snuggler. Both are FIV and FeLV negative and up to date on shots. Neutering is included in their adoption fee! These 18 week old boys don’t need to be adopted together, but all our kittens must go to a home with another young cat for them to hang out with. Come meet them in our Adoption Center inside Petco Union Square!

Valerie showed up at her rescuer’s front door– she must have been asking the other cats where to go, because this was the home of a cat foster person!

Medium-haired 2 year old Valerie is a sweet, affectionate cat who loves people and loves to play. She loves to get petted and hang with her humans, but she’s not clingy. She is OK with some dogs and all kids, and good with other cats, although she can be territorial about food and her letterbox.

Valerie will be making her debut at our Adoption Center inside Petco Union Square tomorrow Saturday, July 25th!

Etta was living in the cold in a colony behind a mall in Poughkeepsie where she was proving affectionate and sociable with anyone who fed her. Since she has been in foster care, she has shown herself to be good natured and gentle. She follows her foster person from room to room and loves to spend the night cuddled up next to them in bed. 7 year old Etta is healthy, happy and warm, but she is FeLV positive. Currently, though, Etta is in remission and asymptomatic, which is great news! Asymptomatic FeLV positive cats are not likely to be contagious to other cats. This poor girl has had a struggle but is a beautiful, sweet and loving lady who needs someone willing to take on an FeLV cat or someone looking for a companion for their FeLV cat at home. Email [email protected] (or [email protected]) to apply!

Lulu is beautiful and she knows it. Like many torties, she has a strong personality and is definitely a diva. But if you are one of the cat owners who loves that, Lulu is going to be the love of your life! She is very interested in people and wants to follow you from room to room and will come up often to be petted. She was not allowed in the bedroom but we suspect that she will want to sleep on the bed if allowed. She may be a bit younger than her three year old age estimate, but we are erring on the side of overstating than understating. Lulu likes to be the queen of her domain but she will love her humans. She is probably best as a single cat. She’s FIV and FeLV negative, spayed, and up to date on shots. Email [email protected] if you’re interested in Lulu!

Rabbit is a pretty little thing who used to come by her rescuer’s backyard in Brooklyn. She would keep her distance but was happy to be fed, especially during snowstorms. After a couple years it was clear to me she was largely dependent on her rescuer for food and so when I ended up leaving the neighborhood, after searching for any sign that she had others helping to care for her, he realized he needed to take her with him to assure her wellbeing. After some dental work my new vet assures him that Rabbit is not feral, just extremely shy. Her foster home can attest to that. Though she remains wary of people she has become good buddies with my other more social cats. She is slowly building confidence through the months she has been at home. While she may never be a lapcat she has grown increasingly affectionate in her own ways. She will tolerate and even enjoy when sitting next to people being gently petted– and even starts to purr when she is feeling especially comfortable. She’s also impatient at meals and has started rubbing against people’s legs in anticipation of food. She is also very gentle. At the most there will be a hiss if startled or she gets overwhelmed pets and even then she is most likely to bolt for the safety of a corner while she calms. She is in fact a very calm, contemplative cat in general. A sweet thing who eventually no doubt will be as affectionate as any cat who grew up with people, but it will take some time. We think if she was in a home with just one or two cats she will bond even faster. We believe she will blossom at the right home with a patient, experienced owner looking for a companion for another cat and willing to take on a cat who is socially challenged. Seven year old Rabbit is FIV and FeLV negative, spayed, and up-to-date on shots. Email [email protected] to apply!
