Meet Jake.

This beautiful 9-year-old, 30-pound Mini Aussie lost the only family he’s ever known. His people loved him deeply, but as their home life grew overwhelming with two young autistic children, they made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him — not because they didn’t love him, but because they feared for his safety and happiness.

Now Jake is confused, grieving, and longing for the familiar comfort of a quiet home.

He’s a sweet, loyal soul who just wants a soft place to land — a calm home with one or two kind-hearted adults who will show him patience, understanding, and love.

Jake is dog-friendly, neutered, fully vetted, and so deserving of a second chance.
Please help us find Jake the peaceful retirement he deserves — a place where he can spend his golden years not just existing, but truly belonging.

If interested in bringing Jake into your home, please complete the online application at https://www.trampledroserescue.com/adopt. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Sadie, the one and only queen of zoomies, snack enthusiast, and professional toy destroyer.

Sadie rolled into our program last August, a little nervous and heartworm positive. Fast forward — she’s now a healthy, happy, hilarious tank of love, ready to find her forever couch (and yard).

She’s a people-first kind of gal — no dogs, no cats, just humans to adore. Give her a proper intro and she’ll be your number one fan, personal shadow, and resident cuddle monster.

Sadie takes her zoomies very seriously, so a fenced yard is a must. She’s also got a soft spot for digging giant holes (landscapers beware) and sunbathing like it’s a full-time job.

Treats? Obsessed. Toys? Must be destroyable. Personal space? Doesn’t believe in it.

If you’re looking for a one-dog comedy show mixed with world-class snuggles, Sadie is standing by, ready to be your best bad decision. You can apply online at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Leon and Claire! You may remember these little pups from my request for bottle feeders about 6 weeks ago. Thanks to some amazing fosters, they are thriving and ready for homes! Here are some pics and a write up from oneof the pairs out in foster right now!

Leon: sweet and goofy; super playful and extremely responsive to praise. He loves kisses and hanging out with people, and loves his toys. I think he would be very easy to train, since he is really tuned in to people and really, really wants to be a good boy. He has typical puppy energy, is respectful to cats, and I am sure he would get along with other dogs as well, especially dogs who want to play and wrestle.

Claire: Very sweet and calm; she loves to fall asleep in your arms. She's petite and quiet. She likes to play but loses steam much faster than her brother does. She is very gentle and peaceful. When she gets tired, she comes up to you for a snuggle. She loves to give kisses and will be the perfect lapdog.

If interested, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Smoke. This 6 year old gentleman came to our program last month after his owner could no longer keep him. He quickly was scooped up by one of our favorite fosters. They recently sent us these pics ad writeup!

"Smoke is the most home-ready cat I've fostered.

That's saying something, because I have fostered a lot of cats since February 2024.

After the initial "Let me check what's under your bed" phase of bringing a new foster home, Smoke immediately took to home life. It took this dashingly handsome six-year-old male no time to confidently explore the apartment and find his food and water, as well as his litter box. Speaking of the litter box, Smoke is impeccably clean and often does his business at night, so you can clean it out in one fell swoop in the morning.

Smoke craves attention and always wants to be around his person. He'll chirp if he can't see you, which is probably a small trace of Siamese lineage bleeding through. Once he locates you, he enjoys a brief game of tag, where you'll follow him into another room and give him all of the pets - and I mean, all of them. How could you not with such luxurious fur like that? Smoke will happily jump up on the couch next to you while you're reading or watching TV, laze at your feet while you're eating or curl up next to you on the bed while you sleep.

Playful isn't an adjective I'd use to describe Smoke yet, at least not in front of me. I will say that I left out several springs overnight and found them in different locations when I woke up, so either he is playing as I sleep or I have other things to worry about.

Smoke is such a sweetheart and would be an amazing addition to any home.

Follow his foster parent on Instagram for more pictures and videos."

If interested in Smoke, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Lavender. This 8 year old torti came to us as a stray from Metairie back in 2020. She was lucky enough to quickly go into a home, but was returned. She has spent time in a couple of different foster homes and does well. She is once again looking for another foster home. We could put her in the free roaming cat room, but would prefer to have go straight into another home instead of back in the shelter.

Her current foster mom sent us some pics and this writeup:

"Lavender is the calmest cat I've ever known and to our family, is the purest old soul. She LOVES attention & if you're looking for a lap cat, look no further, Lavender is a perfect fit.

She spends her days in her favorite rooms in the home ; our laundry room, office & bedroom where she soaks up the sun & when she's not sleeping, she's begging for more attention.

She would do best in a home without excessive traffic, small children tend to make her stressed."

If interested in adopting or fostering this lovely lady, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Say hello to Duchess! This sweet, goofy girl came into our program as a tiny pup with her siblings — they were literally being sold out of a bucket outside Ms. Mae’s last March, overheated and in rough shape. Huge thanks to Kathy at ARNO for teaming up with us to get the whole litter safe and sound.

Now, as rescue life sometimes goes, Duchess is once again looking for her forever person.

She’s just over a year old, past the wild puppy chaos, and ready to be someone’s loyal sidekick for life. Duchess is one of those dogs who lights up when she sees her people — she’s always smiling, always ready for a walk or a cuddle, and honestly just a total joy to be around.

She walks great on leash, does well in her crate, and would love to be your morning walk buddy (or your all-day-every-day best friend).

If you think Duchess might be the missing piece in your life, you can apply to adopt her at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks. Michelle

Meet Jimmy Dean.

Jimmy Dean came to our program back in October of 2022, when he was dumped over our fence at the Rescue building. He had a broken jaw and a host of other medical issues. We were able to fix most things, but the jaw was to old and not fixable, so his mouth hangs open. It doesn't bother him in the least!

He was able to quickly go into a home with an older person and happily lived there for two years. When his owner had to move to assisted living, Jimmy Dean came back to us. He was lucky enough to land up in one of our best foster homes. They recently sent us these pics and write up:

"Jimmy Dean is 12 years old tiny Sh*tzu who enjoys a peaceful life consisting of three soft meals a day, long naps inside curled into his tiny dog bed, long naps outside in the sunshine, and stroller rides in the neighborhood.

He loves everyone he meets. Jimmy Dean is house-trained and rather quiet until he’s hungry. He will gently let you know when it is mealtime.

He doesn't see and hear perfectly, but that doesn't slow him down.

He is a surprisingly fast walker, but a slow eater of soft foods. (He had a jaw injury at one point.)"

If interested in Jimmy Dean, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet some of our Freret cats!

If you have ever walked down Freret Street and looked in at the cats in the window, you have probably seen some of these babies.

While the window is also shared with boarding cats, we also put rescues in the window. They love watching the birds at the bus stop and getting attention from people who stop to say hi.

Oddly enough, we have 3 blind cats in our program and at the Freret location right now! Here are just a few of the cats available for adoption/foster at that location right now!

Genovese: a loaf of a cat. Loves getting brushed, belly rubs, head butting and food. No dogs.

Josie: lean and wiry, great with other cats, definitely a climber, very playful.

Dori: calm, confident, is comfortable navigating around the office and getting to her food and box (she is blind). Especially enjoys being pulled in tight for a bear hug.

Finley: loves other cats, has an independent streak, playful and enjoys a bit of rough housing.

Lovebug: our feline leukemia poz cat. Has only been alone. Wildly friendly, very active, goes from petting to hand wrestling in an instant.

If interested in any of the pets in our program, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. We still have our April half off sale going on for 10 more days! Thanks. Michelle

Meet Casper. I have posted Casper in the past. I rescued him back in January of 2024. He was eating out of a trash can and had an embedded chain in his neck. He had heart worm and a host of other problems. Most recently, he was attacked by 2 loose dogs while on a walk. Finally something good happened in his life. He found a wonderful foster. They sent him these pics and write up:

✅ House trained ~ just this morning he had to go, and made moves to indicate so and we went right out to our back yard to p**p. (He has only been urinating in the yard so far, so he must have really had to go.). He p**ps twice a day. I take him out to p*e before I leave him unattended.

✅ Doesn’t need crating- waits for you to come home without messing with anything in the house. After a great first night, I left him for 2 hours unattended twice. Then 4 hours the next day. He patiently waits for your return he doesn’t get into anything.

✅ Good with kids - we met a family with a 2-3yo girl. Casper fell right over in a submissive posture to receive belly rubs.

✅ Great leash-walker - doesn’t pull, walks well

✅ Not reactive to dogs - with limited exposure, I have found him to be great with dogs. My neighbor, who is terrified of big dogs. Casper has been perfect with them, sharing their stoop and walking with them in neutral grounds. I think he’d like to play with appropriately sized dogs.

✅ I think he is mute. He hasn’t made a single utterance since I picked him up.

✅ He likes to play ball- mostly retrieves then plays keep away.

✅ He’s a big fan of AYU bakery/coffee shop. He will lay all the way down and has great table manners.

✅ He likes to hold hands.

✅ This is a marketable dog. He would make a great security companion for an older person. The perfect combination of scary-looking, but super-sweet disposition, he doesn’t require a great deal of activity. He’s happy to just lie around.

🚫 seems reactive to cats
🚫 wants to chase squirrels
🚫 big scavenger - eats p**p. (Started him on pro-biotic)

If you are interested in Casper, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Chicken Nugget!

This 4 month old little guy came to us one month ago today from a shelter out in middle Louisiana and has been comic relief we all needed. He hops when he runs and his back end is faster than his front end.

Chicken Nugget was lucky enough to score a foster home. They sent us these pics and write up:

Chicken Nugget is the happiest little guy you'll ever meet.

At approximately 4 months old, he is learning something new everyday! He is as spunky as can be and loves attention. He loves to play with and snuggle other dogs. He has met one cat and did great with respecting their boundaries.

Chicken Nugget would do good as the only animal in a household but would also be the perfect addition to a home that already has pets.

He loves getting kisses on his forehead and is an A+ snuggler! Chicken Nugget is making great progress with potty training and is working on learning commands like sit and stay."

If you are interested in Chicken Nugget, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Jackson.

Jackson is a delightful, 8-year-old, long-haired Dachshund, recently blind (genetic causes).

Jackson came into our program last month when his elderly caregiver sadly could no longer care for him.

He was lucky enough to find placement in one of our very best foster homes. They recently sent us these pics and write up:

"Jackson is very dog and people-friendly and enjoys short leash walks around the block.

He is a very soft and cuddly gentleman. He has been adored and well-loved, but equally overfed. He is adorably plump, but his excess weight is too big a burden on his back and hips.

Jackson is searching for a loving home dedicated to continuing his healthy diet (will whine for food, will stop if ignored). He will require patience while he learns his way around a new home, but he adjusts quickly."

If interested in this chonk, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Jet. Jet came to our program as a stray back in March of 2024. Over the last year that he has been with us, this 3 year old snuggle muffin's personality has bloomed. He was lucky enough to find an amazing foster home. They sent us these pics and write up:

"Jet is a sweet hound pup and is currently living the apartment life like a champ with his foster family. He has a goofy personality and just wants to be loved (ESPECIALLY with belly rubs).

While he can be a bit timid and protective when new people enter his home space, it’s all nerves, not aggression - he just needs a little time (and some treats - he’s highly food-motivated!) to feel safe. Once he warms up, he’s a total sweetheart who will happily curl up near you or trot around with his tail wagging.

He also lives for his walks - his ears perk up when the harness comes out, and he’ll get a bit jumpy with excitement (sometimes some nipping on your hands, but all in good fun!). Jet walks well on a leash and loves to sniff everything along the way. He’s curious about other dogs and may pull a little and get distracted to say hello, but he’s not barky.

Jet is currently working through some separation distress. He doesn’t love being left alone and does become anxious when his people are away. With patience, consistency, and love, he’s making progress, and we’re confident he’ll continue to blossom.

Jet is the perfect mix of mellow and playful, loyal and independent. He’s been such a joy to foster, and we’re so proud of the progress he’s made. If you’re someone who understands dogs with a bit of a sensitive side and have a lot of love to give, Jet might just be your boy!"

If interested in Jet, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Hi, my name is Missy (a.k.a. Missy Smelliott), geez, you roll in something nasty one time and you can’t shake the horrible nickname!

I don’t feel comfortable bragging about myself, but I have been at Zeus for over two years and want a forever person or family more than anything, so here I go…

I am a three-year-old hound mix and weigh about 35 pounds. I am leggy and lean and make a great walking (I don’t pull) or even running companion.

I get along with other dogs and people too, if properly introduced! My forever person or family would be loving, patient and kind, but maybe not have any children under the age of 16.

Water? I love it! Belly rubs? Nothing feels better! Chasing a ball is fun too, but it’s 50/50 if I will bring it back to you. And as I mentioned in the beginning, I love to roll in grass!

The crew at Zeus doesn’t play favorites, they love us all, but when they thought I wasn’t listening, I have heard them say things like “Missy is the sweetest “and “I love Missy”, they all think I am special!

If you wanna meet me (and I hope you do) the best way is to have one of the Zeus crew properly introduce us and then take me on a walk! I will tell you that I trust you by giving you the biggest hug, it’s one of the things people love best about me. I mean, I will wrap both of my front legs and paws around you, look straight up into your eyes, and hold on tight.

Remember April is 50% off adoption fees so it’s a great time to see if we would be a fit in your home.

Oh and one last thing, for a motivated adoptive person or family, I have a person willing to pay for some initial training to help with my transition.

If you think you might be interested in meeting me, contact my friends at Zeus! You can take me on a walk and then maybe I can stay with you for a week or two?

If interested, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Belize.

Belize and his siblings came to us in July of 2024 from our friends at Trap Dat Cat. He has been lucky enough to not spend all his life in a kennel so far, thanks to a couple of foster families. They recently sent us these pics and write up:

" Belize is the sweetest cuddle bug. He loves everyone and would love to be your new furry friend. He’d do great in a home with another cat sibling. He’s a very curious guy and always checking out new things in the house."

Belize is part of our Spring Adoption Sale! His $150 adopt fee covers all his shots, neutering, microchip and you get flea prevention and a trial bag of Science Diet to start his life off right!

If interested in Belize, or any other pet in our program, please complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle
