Thinking of becoming a dog groomer? Here’s some things I’ve learned over the last 5 years💖✨
1) A healthy work-life balance is SO important in grooming. Grooming can be an overwhelming and demanding career. Take care of yourself. Give yourself breaks. The dogs can feel when you’re stressed💖
2) This is one I still struggle with because I’m a people pleaser, but not every client can get exactly what they want first appointment. Every client is different, with different needs, coat, and maintenance. It’s okay to do what’s in the best interest of the dog. Explaining and educating an owner can go a long way. We may have to shave this time, but to get your goal we need to do x, y, and z. Most people are understanding, and if they’re not, they just might not be the client for you💖
3) Your shop won’t be perfect when you first open, don’t get discouraged. Growth takes time. I started in an 11x12 shed. It took me 4 years to build my business up to buy Waggz tables, a new tub, the use of top-of-the-line grooming products, an amazing team. It takes time, hard work, and a good relationship with people. Don’t give up, see the vision, and work up to it! 🫶🏼
4) The MOST important thing I’ve learned, being booked out & not having availability isn’t a bad thing. You want a full schedule, with consistent clientele to create a stable income for yourself. You can’t groom every single dog. If you’re booked out a few months, you’re doing something right🐶
Grooming isn’t for everyone, but it’s definitely for me🫶🏼💖✨🐶
