Dillon and Bogey enjoyed a day of training along the beautiful New Bern waterfront. The park is an excellent spot to find all kinds of distractions to train around, and we weren’t disappointed. These two practiced all of their commands all over the park while screaming kids, other dog walkers, joggers, and people enjoying the view enjoyed the park along with us.

Stay tuned to see how they wrap up their training! Even though Dillon is deaf, he’s very much able bodied and willing to do what Bogey does 😊

Olive is finishing up her final week of that training program and has been fine tuning everything she’s learned here. It’s not only cool looking, it’s useful in day to day life. She can do things very fluidly now. Stay tuned for her graduation!

In their final week of training, Dillon and Bogey have continued practicing everything they’ve learned in public. They came to training needing to learn how to NOT bark at everything they saw, so coming out in public to train with some rules has been a game changer for them.

📣 📣 Graduation announcement!! 📣 📣

It’s time for the fluffy gentle giant to wrap things up. Jury came to training because he was terrified of his own shadow - small noises made him jump and run. We did a LOT of work to help him be more confident over the last few weeks, and it has fully paid off. Anytime he was out with his owners before, he would pull towards the car or try to run through the doors to leave. In this video, we sat in front of someone stacking and then cutting plywood, and were able to walk by those things without issue. We also walked by the hanging plastic curtain that blows around and clinks together. The general chaos of Lowe’s didn’t phase him this time - that was the goal! If he does get caught off guard by something in the future, he can now recover well from it. Jury has come such a long way in training and I’m super proud of him! Goodbye for now, big guy 😊

Jury’s progress throughout his training has brought him to the point where he can confidently run across my seesaw without needing to be coaxed by a leash, he can be around a mower without running away frantically, and he’s able to respond to commands with or without a leash. He is also happy to place while I leave his sight entirely and go inside the house. This sweet guy has grown so much over the last few weeks. I’m so proud of his progress. 📣 📣 Graduation announcement!! 📣 📣

Tilly just finished up our basic puppy program and now has some new on-leash skills! She was all over the place before, and a big part of what we worked on here was having her learn how to be calmer. Her owners have an elderly family member living with them and need her to be able to control her excitement a little bit better. In her program, she learned to heel, sit, down, place, recall, and most importantly - settle. Being able to lay at her owner’s feet or on her bed instead of frolicking around was the goal here and we nailed it!

Great job, little Tilly! See you back for off-leash training!

📣 📣 Graduation announcement!! 📣 📣

Rudy has completed our behavior modification program! He was a wild boy before coming to training - he exhibited a lot of nuisance behaviors such as pulling on the leash, lunging at cars, biting at tires, and the most stressful of all - being dog aggressive. He has learned better ways to act and he has also learned several solid commands that will go a long way in giving his owners the life they envisioned with him. He can now walk well on a leash and be safe around other dogs. Great job, little buddy!

Olive 🫒 got to train in another new environment - Academy Sports! With the weather outside being super hot, and with needing to work around distractions more, finding a nice busy and air conditioned store to train in is the best way to spend her training time. She’s getting better at holding commands every time we go out!

Jury’s training took us to Tractor Supply! The automatic doors make him want to either run away or dart through them, so we spent a good amount of time just working on walking past them and up to them. After we made it inside, one of his challenges was to hop up onto and then walk across the stacks of feed bags - they create an uneven and loud surface to walk across, and this was a great confidence building exercise for this gentle giant.

To continue working in the environments that push Jury to be brave, we went to Academy Sports! We, of course, spent time working near the doors during our trip. He also got to practice his commands around new noises and different distractions. He’s a very sweet guy, so when a child that we heeled by “booped” his nose as we walked past, it made my day, and I think Jury’s too 🥰

Olive 🫒 and I went shopping at Tractor Supply and stopped to chat with one of my favorite employees there. Practicing holding commands during times like that, where conversation runs longer, is a true test of duration work mixed with distraction work. Olive is beginning to challenge just how long she can hold commands, and how well she can hold them around exciting distractions. More of this to come before she finishes up!
