Throwing an update on here-

I let this nervous girl outside to go potty today 💙

I was told she can be very shy with strangers and I expected exactly this (even though she was not shy at all at the prior visit, her dad told me she’s not a huge fan of new people).

I gave her space and she went outside and came in for me without issue.

🥰 I’ve had a lot of experience with extremely nervous pets, some I’ve never even been able to pet after years, and that’s perfectly okay! My job isn’t about making physical contact with all clients, it’s about their comfort and care. If that means avoiding eye contact, low or no talking and letting them do their thing, that’s absolutely what I will do for them to feel safe.

I expect her to get more accustomed to me eventually. For now I’ll take nervous barks and avoidance, if it means peeing outside and coming right back in 😅🥰
