Last week we celebrated Raychel’s 1 year work anniversary at Great Lakes! Raychel was born and raised in Wisconsin and Michigan. She briefly lived in Iowa while attending college, until she moved back to the area to pursue another career. Raychel loves a lot of things, so it was not easy for her to decide what she wanted to do for a career. While working at a local airport, she stumbled upon an Ad for Great Lakes and the rest was history! Raychel started out in our reception department and was excellent at it! Before long, she became an assistant and that led to finding her true passion. Raychel is currently in school to become a Certified Veterinary Technician and we could not be prouder! When she isn’t busy at work or school she loves spending time with her adorable fur babies. Remi, Jack, Andy, Juniper, and Pancho sure keep her on her toes! We are very grateful to have this wonderful human as part of the GLVC family. Happy work anniversary, Raychel! 🐾

🚨Case Files with Dr. Jenny – UC Case of the Week 🚨

🌸 TEN TINY TAILS 🌸

This past Mother's Day, Birdie gave us a story we'll never forget!
When Birdie presented in need of an emergency C-section, the GLVC team and GLVC Urgent Care team came together to help provide care for both mom and her puppies. Through teamwork, preparation, and compassionate care, Birdie safely welcomed 10 healthy puppies into the world. 🍼

🐶 How Our Teams Helped Birdie and Her Puppies -
• Pre-Operative Care
• Assessment and stabilization of Birdie
• Monitoring vital signs
• Coordinating surgical and anesthesia support
• Preparing the neonatal care area for the puppies

🩷🩵 Puppy Support During Delivery
• Clearing airways and stimulating breathing
• Drying and warming newborns
• Monitoring heart rates and responsiveness

❤️ Post-Operative Care
• Monitoring Birdie's recovery from anesthesia
• Providing pain management and supportive care
• Encouraging nursing and maternal bonding
• Monitoring puppy health
• Providing postpartum guidance

Every puppy required individual attention, and every team member played an important role in helping this Mother's Day story have a happy ending. 💐

Ten Tiny Tails. One Amazing Mama. One Dedicated Team.
Here When You Need Us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jenny & the GLVC Urgent Care Team

PLEASE NOTE: Emergency C-sections and other surgical procedures are not a routine service provided by GLVC Urgent Care. Our Urgent Care Clinic is primarily a non-surgical service. Surgical cases are evaluated and managed based on surgeon availability, patient needs, and hospital resources at the time of presentation. Birdie's case was a unique collaborative effort between the Great Lakes Veterinary Clinic and GLVC Urgent Care teams. We appreciate your understanding and your trust in our team.

🚨Urgent Care Case Files with Dr. Jenny: Rock & Roll Bladder 🪨

🐈‍⬛ Nicky, a sweet senior kitty, came to the urgent care clinic after having accidents outside the litter box and showing signs of discomfort while urinating. After a full workup, we discovered the culprit — a bladder stone causing irritation and inflammation. 😖

What We Did:
• Ultrasound-guided bladder sample collection 💉
• Urinalysis & urine culture 💦
• Radiographs (X-rays) to identify the stone 🩻

Treatment Options for Bladder Stones:
1) Dissolution Diet - Special veterinary diets can dissolve some stones over time while helping prevent new ones from forming. 🍚
2) Surgery (Cystotomy) - Needed when stones are too large, causing a blockage, or unable to dissolve safely. 🏥

The good news? Not every bladder stone means surgery! 🎉After discussing treatment options with Nicky’s family, we elected to try a prescription dissolution diet designed to slowly break down certain types of bladder stones naturally.
Nicky has been doing GREAT on the dissolution diet and is already feeling much more comfortable at home. 😺

🤔Signs Your Cat May Have a Bladder Issue:
• Urinating outside the litter box
• Frequent litter box trips
• Straining to urinate
• Blood in the urine
• Vocalizing while urinating

🐈Senior kitties are masters at hiding discomfort, so subtle changes matter! Noticing when your cat is acting different is important. If you notice early, you can get care quickly!
