Saying goodbye to your pet is the most difficult decision to make and endure as a pet owner. Home hospice and euthanasia allows your pet to spend their last moments at home, where they are most comfortable and loved: At home with you. We travel approximately up to 1 hour from our home office in Oshkosh. We will make every effort to accommodate your schedule and your pets condition, even same day requests when possible. We also strives to be available after hours and on weekends, as well. For home euthanasia, we also offer cremation options.

Conditioning your pet now, before storms or fireworks can really be helpful. Special thank you to Lindsey Bernier of ideal dog LLC for comprising most of this list, I did make some edits for our audience and added some links)
☔️ you can help to desensitize your pet to the sounds by playing recordings at a very LOW/QUIET volume while playing fun games, feeding meals and giving treats to pair the sounds with positive things. As your dog gets used to the sounds, volume can be slowly increased over the next few weeks.

More helpful things to do:
• Take your dog for a long walk the EARLY morning of the big day, and then again before the festivities start if neighborhood noise is still low. The walk before dusk will allow him to potty outside before all of the noise begins and the added exercise may help tire him out and reduce anxiety.
• During firework displays, keep your dog indoors in a confined and secure area with shades closed. You might also try adding soothing sounds from a white noise machine.
• Play calming music with the volume up a bit for an added distraction. Classical music is great, or even better https://icalmpet.com/

• If your dog does become stressed, try to make the fireworks a cue for fun time to begin. Play a fun game, give treats, play with stuffed puzzle toys, and stay relaxed and happy. Your fun behavior and body language can help distract from the noise outside.

• If your dog is known to be extra sensitive to sound, the day of the fireworks is too late to get help from your Vet, so contact your Vet care team right away if you think prescription medication is needed.

• Make sure your dog's collar has current identification tags on it, in case of escape from your home. Having an ID tag on can help get your dog back to you sooner. Miss Ezra Brooks would have been 10 on August 10th. Best Mama dog a family could ever ask for. A mom to 10 babies of her own, and a mom to seven kiddos in her home. No matter how these kiddos showed up she let them love her. Save this place for a foster baby to land. She saved me multiple times from the heartbreaks of life.
God sends you the dog he knows you need, at the time you need them.

When your pet is having a good day, it can make the decision about euthanizing your dearly loved pet so confusing 💔

On a recent appointment, I met a sweet senior pup, she had been struggling with advanced cognitive decline, mobility issues, and now new seizures. Her family had planned a few days ahead to have her gently euthanized at home, that day had arrived, and now she was having a better day. She was still sleepy but more perky in general. I could tell her family was really struggling about what was the right decision, as they hadn’t seen her this perky in quite a while. From my veterinary perspective, I could tell that she was struggling quite a bit, despite being perkier. I encounter so many urgent situations & see firsthand how quickly pets decline and that it is better to say goodbye when they are having a good day, rather than waiting until it is too late…. yet I can also appreciate how this can feel quite confusing too!

After spending some time, watching her and talking with the family, I let them that we didn’t have to do this today if they didn’t feel that it was the right time. Ultimately this is their decision, yet my responsibility to be honest about what likely lies ahead if they chose to wait.

I value that I can be open and honest with families… and I let them know that I believed saying goodbye today, while she was having a good day, was the best decision for their sweet girl. Not only would her family have a good memory of her, she was not in a traumatic, scary, painful situation and she knew her family was right there beside her. Her family would also be there to say goodbye in the way that they felt was most meaningful, surrounding her with love, her favorite people, toys, and treats. We talked about how things were trending and the wrong direction for her quality of life, and that seizures or something else traumatic could be right around the corner. If her family decided to wait on euthanasia today, they should make a plan of action in case Home euthanasia was not an option & she declined quickly and more urgent care was needed.

Ultimately, her family decided together that they felt it best to help her over. The transition was very peaceful, and afterwards her family expressed how much relief they felt that that their loved dog of over 14 years was no longer struggling.

Helping on a good day is better than waiting too long. When we choose to euthanize a beloved pet, we are taking on the burden of pain so that our pets don’t have to go through more struggling, and this is truly an act of love: Loving enough to let go when the struggle is too much for our treasured pets 🌈 🐾

In loving memory of beautiful Maddie 💕 Maddie was rescued when she was just a few years old, she had been bred so much and she just didn’t even know how to be a dog. In her family’s loving, patient home, she learned how to be a dog and how to trust. She became the greeter anytime anyone would come visit. She was the first to say hello. She loved to snuggle, and be anywhere her family was. Sweet Maddie, you are forever loved, and are always in our hearts! 🌈 🐾

UPDATE: June 11, 2026 **The Green Lake Association (GLA) confirmed today that the boat launch at County Hwy K Marsh continues to test positive for Anatoxin-a. Last year this same spot tested positive for Blue Green Algae for a majority of the testing season. The GLA will continue to test weekly and monitor the bloom. Remember: When in doubt, stay out!**

⚠️CAUTION⚠️ Blue Green Algae Bloom at County Hwy K Marsh boat launch!

We have a confirmed blue-green algae bloom in the County Hwy K boat launch that is positive for Anatoxin-a.

The Green Lake Association will continue to monitor the bloom. Please check back for updates!

Blue-green algae blooms are toxic to human and pet health. The toxins produced during a bloom can cause severe illness if ingested or contacted. Use caution around the water in the area of the advisory or if, at any time, you see the water showing the blue-green color characteristic of an algal bloom and the appearance of pea soup.

Algae conditions can change quickly with shifts in wind and temperature. Always use your best judgement and look for visual signs before entering the water. Watch for signs like:

-Water that looks like green paint or pea soup
-Discolored streaks or surface scum
-An unusual or foul smell

This week we helped a loyal dog, she was well up in her years & had been declining gradually for quite a while. She has some known organ issues, however she took a turn for the worse: She hadn’t eaten in a week, and she was barely moving & helping her became an urgent matter. It was clear to me that she was truly struggling and her body shutting down….yet the decision was still so hard for her family. After she passed on, the family told me how much relief they felt that she was not suffering anymore despite the fact that they were going to miss her physical presence.

Situations like this are not uncommon. Sometimes suffering doesn’t look dramatic at first. Sometimes it just looks like your pet is off in a number of different ways initially.

Its not that families are ignoring signs that their sweetheart is struggling, it’s just that our pets are so loyal, they instinctively hide that they are struggling and push through discomfort because they love us so much. Eventually, however, our loyal companions will reach a point where they just can’t hide that their body is struggling and it often looks like a quick decline (even though it has been going on for some time).

This is where education about how to monitor for signs of pain and honest conversations about quality of life are so very helpful and important. We are so blessed to have such loyal friends 🐾
